Have you considered a homeopath?

My oldest had colic and it was terrible. We tried meds and diff formulas - eventually we went to the homeopath and she managed to get it all sorted.

Changing formula can be the cause of a lot of your issues - it takes time for baby to adjust to it so I would pick one formula and give it a month at least unless he stops drinking all together.

Paeds arent the be all and end all of helping ;) trust your instincts and do what works for your baby!

Good luck

Amanda I'm sure that can be increased to another half at night? I'd check with your paed. Also my paed said we can give Gaviscon 3 times a day as well with the Losec which definitely helped loads.

Also try putting a pillow under his mattress to lift his head while he's sleeping.

thank you ChanM for your kind words and understanding I do appreciate it, even feel a bit encouraged now. The pead also say my boy is healthy as an ox. He is on half a tablet a day because he is only 12 weeks now.

I feel your pain Amanda. My son Kade had colic for 9 months and bad acid reflux. He's still on 2 Losec tablets a day. Costs a damn fortune!

We also tried 7 different formulas! It was a nightmare 9 months so I know exactly what you're going through.

My paed said the AR and HA formulas are just a waste of money - not to even go there.

Kade is on Nan HA. This was the best for his tummy - and as I say we tried almost every formula possible. Everything would be great for 2 weeks and then the problems would start again.

He is almost 10 months now and there is just no way we can move over to Nan HA 2. His stomach plays up again and it's a nightmare. So he's still drinking Nan HA 1. And our paed said that he's so healthy and weighs 13kg's that we could put him over to normal cows milk now and stop the formula all together. I'm so scared to try this because finally in almost 10 months we're getting sleep!

We eventually did blood allergy tests as well as testing his stool just to rule out lactose intolorence and milk allergy. All came back clear.

Unfortunately nobody can tell you what to do. I think with these babies it's trial and error finidng the few things that do work.

How much Losec does your baby have a day? Ours was increased to one tablet in the morning and one at night. If we try give half a tablet twice a day he's in agony and life becomes a nightmare.

I've heard of putting rice cereal in baby's bottle but I'd run that by your paed first.

It's a really tough time for you I know because it's been the longest most difficult 9 months of our lives. But now that we have the Losec dosage correct we're definitely seeing a major improvement all around! The colic is finally gone and Kade is waking up most nights now only once a night. I used to get up between 15 and 20 times a night because he was just so uncomfortable and in pain.

Maybe a second opinion from another paed might give you some answers?

Sending you positive vibes and loads of patience!

I cant really help much as I've never used formula, but I know that constantly changing brands can also upset tummys, so maybe stick with one for a little longer and do the smaller feeds more frequently to help ease the reflux?

Hi

HUGS

I look after 3 little boys with severe reflux. They are on Novalac with Nestargel. The Nestargel is a lot thicker than the AR formulas. The thing with AR formula is often the thickening agent in them causes gas in the baby's tummy which make them uncomfortable and their reflux worse. Remember, with a reflux baby, smaller meals more often is the answer and the guidelines on the tins are just that, guidelines, not all babies drink what the tin says! So if the tin says 6 180ml bottles in 24 hours (every 4 hours), then why not offer 150ml every 3 hours instead? Also remember to keep him upright after meals.

L is 3 months now, he is a big baby (8 kg already) and drinks about 150 - 180ml every 3 hours. We also use telement drops and colief.

If you like, I can pass on his mums email address? This is her 3rd reflux baby.
