I made it only once...and my LG also thought it was horrible...I actually want to make it again because I thought it taste a 100 times better than the woolies rice milk.

I haven't made the rice milk - there are loads of recipes online.

I made a mixture of oat/coconut/almond milk - I thought it was really good compared to the store bought boxes - but my LG disagreed...

It is perhaps worth a try?

I will look for the recipe that i used and post it later!

Sorry forgot to add...We have tried the new woolworths fresh lactose free milk and yogurt. I find that it is better than normal milk and yogurt (I am also semi-lactose intolerant) but still results in some amount of post nasal drip. But it is also expensive, R19 for one litre, but it tastes just like normal milk!

I have tried the easygest too, also better but still a post-nasal drip appears after consumption....So, yes, very frustrating indeed.

Thanks Gloei.
I must say after reading how much sugar was added to the First Growth milk I checked the Nido this morning and it's just as much, possibly slightly more! Quite horrified!

How do you make rice milk?
I tried making almond milk for him (I did an almond/coconut mix) and he was soooooooo miserable. A total shell of his usual happy self. I have never known my child that unhappy.

Huggles,

Just a few thoughts:

I bout the parmalat first growth milk at first and then when I realised they put sugar in it (and the amount!) I stopped buying it and switched to normal cows milk. I give my LG a good multivitamin in any case, and if you look at the small amounts of added vitamins in the first growth milk I would rather choose my own milk and own vitamins.
I believe those premixed milks nido, first growth etc are just money making schemes (my clinic sister said the same).

This whole dairy intollerance/allergy story confuses me too.

However the one thing I have concluded:

When your child has any form of cold/sinus/bronchitis/flu/post nasal drip etc remove dairy as much as possible from the diet as possible. It is simple, most people (even healthy people) get an increase in phlegm after eating dairy. Therefor when there is phlegm present from a sickness - avoid dairy!! I have read this in numerous articles online too.

I don't necesarily believe my child is clinically lactose intolerant, but I know that it worsens any sickness with phlegm she might get. If you are going to remove dairy make sure that your child gets in enough calcium through a supplement (you get chewables) or other foods high in calcium.

I have taken my child of dairy foods almost 90% for 7 months now and I can say that she has been only sick twice this year, with the lightest colds she has ever had. This is quite a change to last years 10 colds she had during the year.

You can make your own almond milk or rice milk. It really is quite easy. I also buy the oat milk from woolies, but yes, it is pricey!! Luckily my child doesn't drink lots of milk anymore.

So there's 6.5g of sugar per 100ml  no wonder my daughter loves the stuff!

Seriously though, I really hope you find something that works for your little guy!

Ugh, it blows my mind too why they add so much sugar. The only reason I settled on the first growth, was because I'm too lazy to mix bottles  , I just figured, I never had to while she was a baby, so why start now that she's a toddler :silly:

I'll double check the sugar content and let you know...
