Hi Niki,

First of all, congratulations!!!! I didn't know you where pregnant again, that's so great!! I wish it was me, but I already have two...

To answer your questions:

1. No 30 weeks is NOT to late, see a midwife in between. But dr Maasdorp is great and caring as well, will also spen lots of time with you so if you feel uncomfortable waiting that long, rather go see him.

2. There are so many great midwifes in Jhb, you ladies are spoiled for choice that side. I would say, interview a few at the open day and then choose one or two to make appointments with, see who you get in with first. There are some who wants you on their books from 12 weeks and won't see you later than that, so that will narrow the field a bit.

3. I think the others have answered that.

Just to add, if you want to do a refresher course, you are welcome to come to me or I will come to you. Contact me.

Must agree with sma

that was the one positive of having a c-sec - I got to spend 3 days there instead of one ;)

I hope so :) I wanted to have my daughter there, but my husband was scared since it was our first and so I went the hospital route, I knew I could do it but respected his wishes,

This time round I am feeling a bit cautious and he is all hung ho for Genesis :) sure I will feel better after the open day

Thanks ladies for the advise, think I will go to the open day and then start interviewing midwives, I have my Gynea appointments with my old Gynea until January 2013, so I will continue with those while I sort myself out

Hi Niki

I have just started using a midwife, Phindi Mashinini, at Genesis. First saw her less than 2 weeks ago at 30 weeks, seeing her again on Friday at 32 weeks. haven't seen whichever back-up gynae I'll use, will only see the gynae at 36 weeks. I wouldn't think you shouldn't worry since you've have NVD before, and since your current gynae is okay about the kidney stones.

So
1 No it won't be late, you'll see a midwife at 30 weeks and a back-up gynae at 36 weeks.
2 Well I only personally know Phindi, but different ladies love their own midwives and had good experiences with them so I'd say interview a few and see who you're most comfortable with. They are all such great ladies.
3 If the only thing is the baby not turned at 36 weeks I think they will still let you labour first, position at 4 weeks before due date is not a reason for a c-section. But gynae will check other things as well but just know the c-section won't be done unless it's actually necessary, but no, your life and your baby's will not be put in danger.

I'm a "higher-risk" but just love the calmness of that place. I'll be having a VBAC and I have a cervical cerclage
