Gynae that delivers at Pretoria East Hospital?

I’m with Dr Trouw. But I must say, people do complain about his bedside manners. He is very busy and not very talkative, but if you ask him something, he will give you a straight answer. Yes, he did tell me that he can only say if natural is possible for me after 36 weeks, but only because of my high blood pressure history with my first baby. He is very different thou while delivering a baby. I was very surprised.

I’m not sure is he still takes new patients, I also had to wait a few weeks for an appointment, but it is worth the try. I only paid R280 for an appointment which makes him a very affordable gynea. Not sure if it is still the same.

Carlene1vn - Could you please let me know which doctor you went with? I have deicded that I would very much like to deliver at Pretoria east. We went there on Saturday and the staff was very friendly.
Unfortunately I could not get an appoinment with any of the doctors I mentioned in my first post. Is your doctor still taking on patients?

The only doctor I could get an appointment with in May is Dr KA Verwoerd. Does anyone know of him?

Hasie - Thanks for the advice. I have decided that I would really like to give birth at Pretoria East. Of all the hospitals I have visited this really is the one I feel the best about.

Seshnie, have you tried the midwifes unit at Femina? You can go check out their webpage at www.midwives-exclusive.com they do births at Femina, but not in the hospital, its got its own entrance, the rooms are big with double beds and big birth baths, you can have a waterbirth, bed birth, use a birth stool etc, all while being "in" the hospital but not in the same type of environment as the inside of the hospital. But if you need emergency intervention, your gyni and the OR is just a corridor away.

They also do births at their birth house in Rietondale or homebirths at your own house, but for those who wants to do the hospital thing, I would really really recommend the active birth unit at Femina.

It really helps to hear the experiences of others. I have a hospital visit at Pta East this weekend. Will see how it goes.

My sister-in-law is with Dr Kleynhans. She is very happy with her. She had a natural delivery last year Sept and nobody tried to pressure her into a C-sec. I also delivered my baby there last year. I’m with a different gynae, and although I had a C-sec in the end, I had a wonderful experience at Pta East. I tried for a V-bac, but after 16hours in labor, the dr suggested a C-sec. He didn’t pressure me at all, he actually told me that I can wait until the next day to make a decision, but he didn’t want me to go home, because of my previous C-sec so I had to stay overnight. He left us alone to make our decision and we decided on the C-sec. My first baby was born at Kloof, also a very good hospital, but I prefer Pta East.

Hasie will tell that Kloof and PTA East has the highest C-section rate!

Pity you feel that way about Femina Clinic - i had both my girls there and had a wonderful natural birth for both, without an epidural or any other pain meds! It truly is the best hospital if you want to have a natural birth...

Have heard scary stories about Unitas, and it would have been so much more convenient for as i live in Centurion. But Femina was my first choice all the way and dont regret it! The nursing staff are wonderful, even if the hospital may look as bit old!

I can recomend Die Wilgers or Kloof Hospital in Pretoria east. I know of alot of people who gave birth naturally at both hospitals and has only good things to say about them.

I see dr De Meulenare at Wilgers. I am also planning a natural birth.
