Thanks Chanz. That has definitely given me some hope. Holding thumbs it works! I have a scan on day 14 to check follicles before the shot so that's fine thanks. Will pass on the other tip to dh. Going next week so will test around 28/29th I guess! FX!

Firstly goodluck with your first IUI. I am almost certain it will work for you

As you know I have severe PCOS & IR and we did one round of IUI with a fertility specialist and we fell pregnant.

The IUI costed us R2500 and then we had to still pay for the injections and transport (since the clinic was 3 hrs away). The injections ranged from R2000-R3000. But it depends on what your body needs.

I just want to add that although you take clomid from day 5-9, after that its so important to monitor your follies. And if your follies arent 100% when scanned, your gynae should advise FSH injections and then another scan to make sure they are the right size before injecting the ovidrel. So although he says ovidrel on day 15- it all depends on your follies. Ideally your follies should be over 15mm before getting the ovidrel injection.

My specialist never advised to have a full bladder. But then again he has special equipment etc so I can understand with the regular gynae ultrasounds why you would need a full bladder.

Because we used a fertility specialist, the sperm sample was done at his rooms and washed there etc. However what I can advise. make sure your hubby washes his manly area before giving a sample (use cool water) and make sure ALL the soap is rinsed off. True fact, soap kills sperm. And I would agree to transport the sample between your breasts.

My medical aid wouldnt pay for the FSH injections (Gonal F), ovidrel or clomid. But once pregnant they paid for the utrogestan etc.

Really hope you get your BFP soon.

Also remember to wait the full 2 weeks (3 weeks if you can) before testing because the injections can give a false positive. Although I tested a week later. I just knew.

Yeah that sounds like a good plan... 5 months of hormones already -WOW!

My gynae recommended that we do 3 attempts with him, take a month break (to give my body a break from the hormones) and if i was still not preggies by then, I should try 3 attempts at a fertility clinic (I was gonna go to Vincent Palloti hospital)

Cool I had budgetted closer to 7k per month but maybe it will be less as I am also going through my gynae.

I'm on my 5th cycle of meds so kind of used to the rollercoaster Hubby and I are thinking we will do a few rounds of IUI and then maybe take a break and reasses.

I paid a total (for meds and procedure) about 3.5K, but i just did it at my gynae, no real specialist or anything. So i think it will differ depending on the specialisation of the Dr you are using. My med aid didnt pay anything.

I have heard that the chances of conceiving (if timed correctly) is 10% more than normal intercourse. Its not alot more, but at least its something.

My IUI didnt work... i dont think it was timed exactly right, and i didnt try again the next month, as the hormones were just too much for me (and my marriage!)

I was on med Nov and Dec 2011 and then decided that we would rather adopt. Our gorgeous little girl arrived home 3 weeks ago, and looking back on the last year... this was all part of God's plan!
