How many children do you have and how old are they?

I have four children. My daughter is 18. My three sons are, five, eight and 15 years old.

How do you descipline your children?

My two younger sons get timeout. Or "treat day", which is normally Fridays, will get taken away. A little harder to discipline the older two but I find that restricting them from the PS3, going out with friends, cutting two hours off curfew time, no WiFi/data/weekly, pocket money does the trick. When I take any or all of that away they know I mean business.

How do you handle the teenage mood swings?

When those teen mood swings kicked in, I thought where did my sweet child go and who is this imposter? My older son tends to take his frustration out on his younger brother, who is eight. Name calling, teasing etc. The two of them are constantly in each others hair. As a parent this really tests you. But you have to keep to the rules of the house and be firm with your teen. If you ground them stick to it. Do not under any circumstances change it or take it away until the period you set is over, or the cycle will just repeat itself.

What is the latest trends under teenagers?

Uber. I must say that I'm not a fan of this. My daughter and her friends Uber to the mall, each others homes, and to parties. With everything going on these days you have to be very careful. I will talk her out of using Uber and get her Dad or Grandpa to drop them off and fetch them again. Less stress for me as a very overprotective mom.

In your opinion what is a reasonable time for teenagers to be home after going out?

Midnight is cut off time if you're not home you're grounded.

What rules do you have for your teenager?

If your bed is not made up you can't leave the house.
If your laundry is not in the basket on laundry days, you have to do it yourself....by hand.
If you do not hand in assignments/projects on time and do not do your homework. No extra murals, soccer, cricket etc. 
School bags, phys ed/ sports gear to be packed the night before.
Your room, you sleep in it, so you clean it.

What made you decide to become an egg donor?

I wanted to help other women experience the joys of motherhood. Its sad how many babies get dumped and then you get people who long to have children of their own. That's why I considered egg donation so I could make a difference in someone's life.

No, egg donation is done anonymously.

Do you have any contact with them afterwards?

No. Your contact at the egg donor agency will give you the news if the egg donation was successful. Your recipient may also send you a letter of thanks and a small gift which you will receive through the agency.

Where do you start if you want to become an egg donor?

You have to be emotionally ready for something like this and you must have the support of your husband/ partner or a relative. I used Nurture Egg Donor Program and they work closely with the best specialist fertility Doctors throughout SA. My procedures were done at Cape Fertility.

In short, tell us how does it work, from wanting to become an egg donor to the actual procedure?

You have to complete an application/profile with the agency. Thereafter someone with the agency will meet with you to discuss everything in detail. Once you get selected/matched with a recipient you go for blood tests, an appointment with a psychologist will be set up to evaluate you and visits to the gynaecologist. On the day of the egg retrieval you will have a minor procedure under anaesthetic to retrieve the eggs. 

Do you have any advice for other women that consider egg donation?

Although egg donors get paid a fee after the egg retrieval is complete. Don't do this for the monetary reward afterwards. As during your treatment you will have to take hormone shots into your tummy to prep your eggs and this takes around three months from start to finish. Some days you will feel bloated, with cramps and irritable. Do it to help a struggling couple start their family. The joy of hearing my recipients were  pregnant and I had a part in that was the most rewarding experience ever.
