Hi Nadia
I have PCOS with severe insulin resistance. My insulin levels were at 20. (normal range is 1-10).
My first gynae that diagnosed me put me on regular glucophage twice a day (1000mg). every month I felt nauseous, had exact pregnancy symptoms too. So was very confused. Then when we saw our FS 8 months later he put me on glucophage SR (slow release) twice a day. And what a huge difference. My side effects dissapeared and my weight started decreasing. Which was great.
We tried one month of glucophage and clomid followed by hormone injections (remember PCOS is a hormonal disorder), and normal intercourse. Didnt fall pregnant. Hubby started sperm-i-prove from our first appointment. Our second month we did the same except this time it was IUI. And we fell pregnant, we now have a healthy happy 15 week old boy.
It really depends from person to person. Some people can use glucophage on its own and fall pregnant while others need extra help. My hormones were completely upside down so thats why I needed the extra hormones.
But ladies, PLEASE, I urge you to never take the contraceptive pill if you have PCOS. It really aggravates the PCOS and makes it so much worse. Its fine if you dont want anymore kids but if you do then rather dont take it. The pill only hides the symptoms, it DOESN'T correct it.
Goodluck Nadia. Really hope you get your BFP soon
