Hi Hopeful

I am also with NaomiB. A public forum is great place for emotional support but does not replace the role of good medical assistance. Maybe post another thread asking for references in your area for doctors.

From what I know is that there needs to be a major change in lifestyle, diet and exercise. I have read that it is important to manage your insulin levels and that the pill will help to regulate your hormones that might have a positive effect on the weight loss as well.

Having struggled to loose some weight and keeping to a constant healthy diet I know how difficult this can be. If I were you I would think long and hard what would suit your personality, lifestyle and budget the best to find a way to eat healthy and start a manageable exercise plan. One of the reasons that keeps me motivated is the fact that my LG who is now almost four adapts my eating patterns and lifestyle. Therefore I try my best to set a good example for her own health's sake too. For that reason I stayed away from crazy diets and fads and follow a sensible eating plan that is not too strict but healthy. I have heard great things from weight watchers and similiar programs.

About the age thing, although it is best to have children before you turn 30 I wouldn't say it will be impossible to conceive after 30 it might just take longer. My sister was 32 and 35 when she had her 2 children with PCOS.

Good luck and keep us updated about your journey. xx

Hi Naomi, thank you for your post.

I agree with you, i finally agree that the best solution would be for me to find a Gynae/FS who i am comfortable with and who can assist me with a plan going forward.

I think just having read all the stories on the internet about people who have had to deal with so much loss due to PCOS has really scared me and put me in a negative position. I actually have a really negative outlook at the moment which doesn't help my situation.

I think a starting point would be for me to try and get some assistance with trying to lose weight and to find a great Gynae/FS as mentioned above.

Thank you for giving me faith that PCOS actually isn't the end all of everything and that i can still make all my baby dreams come true if i am positive and keep trying.

P.S ----> i am sorry to hear about your MC, i really hope that your baby dreams do come true....NO WAIT.....i KNOW your baby dreams will come true ;)

Hi Mrs H, sorry to hear about all you problems. I too have PCOS and am also overweight.

You have to go to a gyne/FS to find out whether there are anything else wrong with you and to help with treatment for your PCOS, not all gynes are the same and you could have a wonderful experience with the next one you see.

I'm currently TTC and are with a gyne who is really wonderful. He put me on 2x850mg Metformin daily for insulin resistance. But when I drink 2 pills per day I really have a bad runny tummy, so he told me that as long as i drink 1 per day he's happy.

I also have to drink Provera to bring on AF and Fertomid to ovulate.

I was 35 when I fell pregnant for the first time ever, but that ended in a MC, so that doctor was talking bullshit about not falling pregnant after 27 with PCOS. I'm currently in the second cycle of Fertomid and my TWW starts tomorrow.

Hope this helps and that you get sorted out really quickly.

Hi Gloeiwurmpie & Hopeful,

Thank you so much for your posts. I really do apprecaite all the support.

In answer to your questions Gloeiwurmpie, please read my story below.
I went for a general Gynae checkup and pap-smear 2 years back. The first thing the Gynae said to me when i walked in is "you have PCOS" i looked at her with a blankly and explained that i had never been diagnosed with PCOS and actually had no idea what it was. She said to me she can guarantee that i have PCOS just by looking at me. She then started examining me and started pointing out all the symptoms of PCOS. For example i am extremely overweight and have been trying since my early teens to lose weight with no luck, i have male pattern hair growth around my navel area, i have facial hair growth under my chin. At this point i was horrified and scared as anything. She then did a internal scan of my ovaries and showed me on the screen that my left ovary was totally black and she explained that this was due to all the Cysts on that ovary. My right ovary had darkened patches. Once that was done she told me i needed to go for various blood tests to test for Insulin resistance.... once my results came back i was also then told that i have Insulin Resistance which could have been the possible cause for my failed weight loss all these years. I was then given a prescription for Glucophage 850mg 2x a day. I have been inconsistent with the medication due to the terrible side effects but have recently started taking the generic called Gluconorm which seems to have less of a negative effect on my tummy.

I have never gone back to the above mentioned Gynae as i feel i was left in the dark and didn't understand anything about PCOS and what effects it could have on my body. She told me that i should try fall pregnant by latest age 27 as my chances thereafter where next to nothing. I have never been to another Gynae for a checkup and have never been to a FS either. I have a typical 28 day cycle but have never tested for Ovulation. As mentioned in my previous post i have now been on Diana for a month and i went to my GP in order to get a prescription for Diana and explained my story to him. He has given me a 6 month script but i still feel uneasy about my situation.

I don't know where to go from here, i know that going through my GP for assistance is probably not the best idea. I just don't want to have another bad experience with a Gynae.

Hi Miss Hopeful, I am truelly sorry to hear about your PCOS. I do not have this but know of a few ladies here on this forum that does. Two that jumpes to mind is Snoekie and Chanz. Snoekie chats on the "gesels saam op die pad na swangerskap" thread but also in the Jaunuary mommy theard. She resently had a healthy and beautiful little baby girl inspite of her PCOS.
I am not sure where Chanz chats at the moment but she also has PCOS and also has a healthy baby boy.
There is definatly hope to still fall pregnant but I would recomend to try and get to a FS as soon as possible and rather work with them aposed to your gyne. There are lots of great gynis so this does not count for all of them and if you are comfertable with yours then stick with them, but what I have found is that gynis tend to treat things at that moment and treat symptoms and that might not alwys be the right plan of action in the long run if you want to have children.

I am not expert in any means and I do not have PCOS so please do take the above as my opinion.

What I am sure about is that you will get the support and guidance here from other ladies in your position.

I wish all the best of luck on your journey
