Theres a lady in my church who does swimming lessons and she's pretty amazing. Her club is called Totsafloat and she takes young babies and older. She is in Edgemead - Sue-Ann Redelinghuys Tel 021 5583660.

I have not heard good things about bently belts - more about their arm movements and inability to swim properly. A swim school is the first place I would ask which equipment is best to use.

May I just say we had a huge wakeup call yesterday when my nephew at 16 months was found face down in their swimming pool - totally blue. If it wasn't for the quick thinking of my sister in law who performed CPR - he wouldn't be alive. Definately a wake up call to get my girls swimming this year properly!!

Bothasig, Cape Town
Mum of 3 girls - Charlene(6) 09/11, Renee (5) 10/04 and Erin (2 and 9 mnths) 16/11.
Moved back from the UK 2.5 years ago. Missing my friends. Full time job - Mum. Part time cake baker and decorator - love it.

I take Dylan to Lindsay's swim school in Bothasig. 021 558 8437. They start from 6 months.

Just so that you know, Mom doesn't take baby in water, the instructor does. They are amazing though and many of my friends have taken their kids to her.

Indoor heated pool so you can go all year round.

If you are keen phone and put your name on the waiting list as they are always fully booked.

Mom of Dylan and Partner to Joerg. We live in the Beautiful Pringle Bay which is along the Whale coast, Cape.

@charnenay - Thanks for the correcting the name :-)
@julzdylan - Yes, we have considered swimming lessons. We just need to find a good swimming school.

I am aware of the risks BUT I will never leave my child unattended with any type of swimming aid. I just like the bentley belt cause then she can float on her own & we don't have to hold her the whole time.

I had one when I was small & could swim on my own, while the adults were around me.

But I do appreciate all the feedback & we are mommies who are concerned for our childrens safety :-)

have you considered swimming lessons?

I take Dylan and he can now jump into the water and swim to the side without any aids and he is two . The younger the better.

I still wouldn't allow him to swim without me in the water but I prefer that he is learining to swim properly rather.

I'm not sure how true it is, but I have also heard that the polyotter was banned due to risk of drowning because once the child flips over, there is no way they can get themselves back over again.
