Children getting hurt at school...URGENT!

Besides the school getting rid of said teacher, they need to show you that they have set procedures for such things or this may happen again.

I must say, I took the matter futher and contacted the "managing body" sorry, don't know the correct term as I am afrikaans, but the main guy called me back, and said that this is totally unacceptable, especially as my son will be the 3rd child to leave to school due to this teacher, she gets called in every 6months for something.

He said that she is at an age that is appropriate for pension, and that he would sort this out as soon as possible...
So let's see what happens, thank you for listening to my story, and for telling me that I am justified in feelling the way I do..

You quite justified in feeling the way you do.

I do think - what ever happened - that it was dealt with badly and you are left feeling the way you do, especially if it is over the holidays - this should have been discussed with you and resolved.

The fact that you have been left with this to stir and brew over for a week before you can address it shows very poor management on the schools part, and that alone would probably make me less than thrilled to head back there in the new term.

However before you make a rash decision, plan to take your son back, plan to chat to the headmistress, however look for alternate options so you do not feel "forced" that returning there with your son is the only option available to you.

I did discuss it with the teacher when I collected him, who told me that I should not react in front of my son (reacting in such: shame my boy are you ok, that looks really sore) teacher told me that he is a strong boy, and he is fine..

I took him to the dr, and when I got back home went past the school and spoke to the headmistress, who then told me she had no knowledge of the incident, and that this teacher already has warnings against her, and that she is waiting for complaints re the teacher so she can give it to the 'board' so that action can be taken. She also is aware that once a parent complains about the teacher, she knows the teacher victimises the children afterwards, and I am completely outraged that the headmistress knows this and does nothing!

The school is now closed for the holidays, so I'll have to patiently wait for the 11th April to have a meeting with the teacher and principle.

At this point in time I feel like taking my child out of the school for the rest of the year and starting grade R in a new school..

This is quite a serious situation.

We all know that kids get hurt and that accidents happen, BUT the parent should be called if it is serious.

Every injury at school needs to be dealt with by a teacher who knows first aid and treated to make sure it is if fact minor so that proper treatment can be administered. Telling a child to go and rinse the mouth isn't proper first aid at all, however this is apparently what happened so you will need to find out all the facts first.


A record book is supposed to be kept at the school where such incidents are recorded if full detail. At Dylan's school a register is kept. If Dylan arrives at school with a bruised eye it is noted to cover themselves etc.

I like to rather discuss small incidents with the said teacher, however this is more serious and the teacher apparently failed to address it properly so you may need to speak to the owner of the school.

You also need to get the full picutre. I am not always keen on getting information from other work collegues etc as they are not always fully aware of what happened either and one can get the wrong idea.
