I have been a "readaholic" since I can remember (I actually can't remember not being able to read, weird as it sounds) and I think it is wonderful to install a love for books in your children. And yes, books make fantastic gifts that will be appreciated for a long time.

Thanks sooooo much for this, really appreciate all the titles. I too love giving books as a gift just so much more meaningful.

I've also tried to opt to give books as presents.

I know they do not have the "wow" factor of a toy, but I like that in three years time odds are the book will still be around while the toy was forgotten three weeks later.

Isabelle has books that I bought for Connor nine years ago - so that is cool.

Thanks for the titles.

I spend so much in fines that it is cheaper to go and buy Dylan books so each month I go to bargain books and spend R100.

At the moment anything with airplanes is a hit. I have even started buying him reference books which he actually loves even though he is two.

Chat to your school regarging the books they use to teach. Dylan's school uses the letterland system which is uk based so my mom sent a few of the books to us and they are wonderful and I like the fact that his school education is continued at home.

sorry to hog this thread ..... but I really love books.

A great range of books is still the Dr Seuss range - I must confess I did not really "get them" until I was a adult.

Now I enjoy reading them, and my kids often pick them up as the choice for me to read to them at night.

I like the rhythm of the story and the sentence construction - again it is one of those that kids pick up the story and remember the lines so they can use them while the story is going - I often get the kids to say the last line or the punch line as they know it.

Very cool books.

If you are keen on purchasing books - the Oxford University Tree Range is great as they use it at local schools - and the books start on Level 1 and then run from A through H for difficulty.

It encourages kids to read - and it is useful as it is the books they use in the local school system.

I purchase them at Bargain Books and they are usually around R39.00. Not the most interesting book you have ever read, but a good investment for Morgan getting ready for school.

Georgia is similiar in age to Morgan, and she loves the Angelina Ballerina range as well - besides being "pink and pretty" for girls I like the little lesson that is always present in the book.
