Breast Pumps - Please give Advise and Opinions

Sjoe... thanx ladies...! I think I'm going to go look at both the Avent and Medela then... maybe I can find a second hand one that is still newish as well. thanx again!

Apparently if you freeze breast milk it looses all its goodness ( not sure how much of that is true), i had two pumps with my first one one manual made by Avent which was pretty good but then i was not producing enough and invested in my second pump which is electric one Medela and that was fantastic , it helped me in the begining and once i have stared producing enough for my hungry boy i stopped using it

I use the Madela mini electric, and I find it works just perfectly.
You may find cheaper ones that do the same job, but I have no complaints about it except maybe the price.

I also used a Medela pump but just the manual one and it worked brilliantly. That was the pump recommended by our midwife.

I have the Avent Electric Pump bought last year for R2000

Although it is expensive, it is really so worth it. Works like a charm, and can take batteries aswell.

My breast for very engorged one day, and the power was off, so I simple put in normal AA batteries (2 or 4 can't remember) and worked wonders.

I am with Kyoto - I bought the Medela Electric plus breastpump and it broke within 3 weeks. Then I bought the Avent Manual one, and it didn't work for me. Don't know if I was doing something wrong but the suction weren't very strong.

Then I found out about hiring of Medela breastpumps and I regret not doing it from the start. I'm paying R350 per month for a hospital grade pump (Medela Lactina Plus) that works great (can't even compare with the Medela electric plus or the Avent manual). Oh, and on top of the R350 per month you have to buy the bits that you use with the pump once off for another R350 (it's called the Medela Lactaset, consists of the cone bits and the bottles and the pipe to connect to the pump).

I have expressed 300ml a day for the last two months so got a freezer stocked up with milk so would say it's worth it.

I can't recommend one but I can recommend which one not to get. The Tommee Tippee Electrical pump. The suction on it was not strong enough. It was totally useless and broke after a month. I sent it back to the supplier, they fixed it and it broke again a week later so I just gave up. I'm still breastfeeding though but don't express at all.
