Juno - I think consuming a placenta - or anything you cannot buy readily at Woolies/PnP/Checkers or even Fruit and Veg is going to raise a few eyebrows and have a reaction.
The recipe itself is not a particularly interestign recipe, so the only part that makes it worth the "cut and paste" is because of the placenta as an ingredient.
No one is really going to look at the foccacio and shallots when they are seeing "placenta" as a main ingredient - hence the reason you supplied the link and so many people commented.
I am scottish and we like a bit of Haggis, which is probably a bit worse than a bit of placenta.
Am I going to be offended if someone thinks I am a few marbles short of a lucky packet because I am eating blood sausage and haggis - no, because I am also rational enough to appreciate that it is not normal fare, and thus not for everyone.
Whether an individual chooses to eat an odd food for religious/cultural or personal reasons is pretty much up to the individual - however I think any vaguely rational individual will understand that others may find the food a rather odd choice and have some violent culinary reactions.
I also think that we are all mature enough to realise that what is one person's meat is another person's poison - so if placenta on the menu is your thing - fantastic - but I think anyone who eats placenta knows that they are not the main stream and that most people would have a reaction.
A bit, I guess, like the set of people who drink their urine first thing in the morning for health reasons.
Different strokes, different folks and all.
