Zackariah, I too have to go the government way, but I am not worried at all. We have a great hospital (George). I went there for my d&c. I am going to a private gyni and gp, will just get my clinic card. My gyni says that if they know you go to a private doc, you dont have to go to them inbetween. But I will prob have to go see the gyni at the hospital once so that he can tell me vba2c or a csection date.

I've only worked in Joburg clinics so I'm not sure....
The rule is that a clinic should see you ANY day of the week. But I know some of them have set aside a specific day for certain things.
You may just have to go along and either they'll help you or tell you when to come back.
Make sure you take your ID book and proof of residence and if you have had any scans or anything, take those results too

Zackariah which area are you in?
In Joburg you need to go to your nearest local clinic and visit their ante natal department. They will give you a clinic card (ante natal card) that will record all your measurements, blood results, blood pressures, urine checks etc. You need to keep this card on you at all times so that if ever something happens (in any area or province) you will be accepted by any government hospital with no hassle.
The clinic you visit will give you return dates every 4 weeks and they will tell you which hospital you will give birth at, as you need to go to the hospital in your catchment area.

Well I'm faced with a dilemna, I didn't join hubby's medical aid in time and have to face going to the government hospital (don't have any other option as I'm a SAHM). Can only tell me how I go ahead with making an appointment at these Gov hospitals please?

I feel so much better now after my scan. Doc says with a heartrate and movement like that, it hardly ever goes wrong! So its a very strong baba!
