question-circle Durbanville Medi-Clinic/Dr Lizette White

Hi, I'm a patient of dr White. She delivered my twins. Excellent excellent excellent! I was submitted to Drubanville when the twins 'threatened' to come pre-maturely. Service was also very good en the staff did a very good job. When I finally went into labour I was transferred to Panorama (because of their NICU), dr White delivered the babies there. I will recomment her any day.

Nef, no I'm actually set on Panorama (1st choice) or Louis Leipold (2nd choice and only if I really have to B) ). Was only looking at DMC because of the doctor. But I am set on a female gynae though.

Have you ever heard of/worked with Dr Carmen Barker? I heard she's also quite good and delivers at Panorama and N1 City. I would consider N1 City Hospital also.

If you want to offer any advise on drs I could try, please feel free.

Ronel, my main reason for wanting to go to Panorama is because of their NICU. Thanks for your input as well.

Dr White is my gynea and she delivered my baby and I think she is brilliant. I also had pcos and she treated it. The experience I had of her is that she is not one really for making small talk but she is a brilliant doctor and especially good in her field and she is very thorough in her tests. I also can't complain about DMC, got really great services there and the nurses were very supporting. I have been a patient of hers before I fell pregnant so I don't know how long it takes to get an appointment but I do know if you fall pregnant she usually doesn't see you before 10 weeks unless there is complications.I bled regularly during my pregnancy and she also managed to squeeze me in and see me. I would definately recommend her

I have also been at Dr Truter and I would also recommend him. He is a real sweetie.

My LG has been admitted 2 to hospital once in Panorama pediatric ward and once in DMC pediatric ward and let me tell you the service we got in Panorama was disgusting! I do understand that they have brilliant doctors and a very nice neo-natal ICU but their pediatric ward was dissapointing. DMC was much better. But I do think it is a very personal choice.

Good luck!

:-)

I know she is very busy, the few gynaes in the WC that do support natural birth.

Are you set on DMC? I can give you a couple of other names if that would help?

It's so important to get the right support!

But I phoned her offices and can only get an appointment in February!!! Can't wait that long, so the search goes on.

I have taught a few moms that have been with her and they have been happy.
She was very supportive of their birth preferences and of natural birth and hypnobirthing.
Just to add, I believe she is very outspoken and doesn't pull her punches - I think you either get on with that sort of person or you don't...

I have been in a few times and spoken to the midwives there and they also seem very friendly and happy to support couples in what they want - obviously that only applies if they have been told.

DMC on a whole though I would say it depends on what you are looking for... a couple of the gynaes there are slightly more conservative and 'old school' and not that open to natural birth.

If you are not hoping to birth your baby naturally it is probably fine.

Hi

Cannot comment on the other hospitals maternity units but Panorama do have a anti-natal icu. The best Pead at Panorama is Dr Gerrit de Villiers ( brilliant!!!!).

I see on your status that you were diagnosed with PCOS. I was diagnosed with the same thing in Feb 2010. Also went on Glugophage and was put on Yasmine Pill for 3 months. Fell pregnant in May??? Go figure... my opinion/history is the following.

Diagnosed with stage 3 ovarial cancer cells and had a lets removal in May 2008 by Dr Greeff in Port Elizabeth as that is where i was staying at that stage. November 2008 again confirmed that i cannot have kids by Dr Deale ( dr. White's partner at Durbanville)but....I WAS ALREADY 3 WEEKS PREGGIES. Obviously dumped him as my doctor.
My opinion is dont believe EVERYTHING doctors tell you, as there is always a man upstairs who decides, but i am not saying not to try all your options, please do as a baby is the greatest gift.
