@ Kaye : as far as I know Dr Truter operates at both Durbanville MC and Capegate MC.

I gave birth at Durbanville MC and was very happy with the nurses and everything else.

So glad to read these positive comments about DMC! I had my son at Cape Gate MC, but have changed dr's to Dr Truter so will be having my little boy at DMC too. And haven't heard the best report regarding the nurses there, so hopefully its not so bad! Also think Dr Truter is great, my previous dr wouldn't even give me the option of VBAC which Truter has agreed to. (If I'm brave enough!)

Hi Marie,

I was pregnant and the fetus was growing in my tube so I miscarried and my tube burst. I was rushed into theatre and Truter performed a laproscopy and salgistomy (please excuse my spelling). The laproscopy is where they cut open your belly button to put a camera in, and then they had to remove the miscarried fetus and a blood clot.

It was a horrible time. But 5 weeks after the op I was pregnant and Dr Truter was so supportive throughout it all :)

I am 19 weeks along now. So exciting!!!!!!

Hi there,

I can highly recommend DMC. And Dr Truter. I have had a lot of complications this year, miscarriage, pregnant with tubal pregnancy, so I was in and out of DMC and I found the service amazing. It is clean, the nurses are wonderful and they let my husband stay with me most of the nights I was there. They would also go make me a chicken mayo toasted sandwich in the night when I woke up, they were wonderful.

Doctor Truter is amazing. I will never go to another doctor. He phones just to check in and when he performed my tubal pregnancy operation he did an amazing job, very little scarring, and I was pregnant 6 weeks later out of the burst tube. So far so good, only 7 weeks along now.

You won't be sorry with DMC, and as my husband says, there is a 24 hour MacDonalds across the road for him :)

Hi Nefertiti

Thanks for your info! I know there is going to be horror stories. People tend to tell and remember the bad and and not the good!! I also know that the mortality rate is higher for mother and baby with c-sec, but I do ALSO know that the procedure is safe these days!! Like any operation there are risks, but unfortunately it is also so for normal birth, even though it is "normal". A friend of mines baby died in normal birth(despite the horror about my aunt and mom) My own cousins baby was too long in the birth canal and had a small seizure and is somewaht paralyzed in his left side. Now you have to understand why I am fond of C-sec. The only reason I do not know what I wil have yet is because I know it is surgery and I get frustrated quickly, so will be frustrated when I cannot jump up when baby cries, etc. I also do not want a scar with pain for the fun of it. So believe me I am still considering natural. But I am open to both! A collegue of mine had a c-sec three weeks ago, she is jogging 8 km already(I know she is a fitness freak). Another friend of mine had a c-sec and was fine after 5days! Both of them didn't plan on c-secs. But being said all this, will hear what Dr. Truter say on my next appointment.

Thanks again
M

Hi Marie,

There will be horror stories about birth whatever your outlook on it, and everyone has an opinion on it..
As an advocate on natural birth and teaching a technique that allows women to release fear and therefore birth as we are perfectly designed to do has seen 70% of the women I have taught birth naturally with no medication. 3 % of the moms I have taught have had an epidural.

In my eyes an emergency caesarean is an incredible procedure and there in place for the 5% of women that face medical emergencies, otherwise an elective caesar has a 3 x higher mortality rate for mother or baby - it is major surgery and also should not be chosen lightly.
