Well well, I found the below article on Pushing vs Hypnobirthing 'breathing baby down'

awelllivedlife.blogspot.com/2008/11/brea...down-vs-pushing.html

And in the article it says....'Practice for breathing down is done on the toilet during a bowel movement. Women are encouraged to notice how their vagina and anus open and how they bear down on the exhale, sending the energy down their body.'

What do you know....

Meags, funny you should mention that with pushing you push like you poo.
Hope no one will be offended by me sharing this.
I had started to learn to relax down there when I'm in the loo doing a no2. Not try to tense up and its working. I figured it I can practise it now in this situation, in labour it'll be easier for me to relax and hopefully not end up tearing......
Now it happens automatically when I go to the loo that I relax my muscle and let my body do what it's supposed to....LOL

Sorry about sharing this bit

I had no urge to push. But the reason you feel like you have to poo is because the baby's head is pressing against the anal passage. so all those nerves are stimulated and therefore you feel like you have to poo

When you push, you have to push like you are poo'ing. If there is any noise coming from your throat or if your throat is beginning to hurt, you are not pushing correctly.

It is a difficult concept because you feel funny pushing like you are poo'ing with everyone in the room. But honestly, if you do poo a bit, you are pushing correctly. And in fact you wont even feel if you have passed some stool or not

I am an antenatal teacher teaching natural birth specifically.

I had absolutely no urge to push with my 1st, after 2 hours of unsuccessful forced pushing (in hospital in the UK) I ended with an episiotomy and 2nd degree tearing and was left thoroughly traumatised for several months..
I learnt HypnoBirthing for my 2nd pregnancy and was thrilled to learn that some women DONT have an urge to push (I was convinced I was broken in some way!)

In actualy fact there is a process known as the natural expulsion reflex (NER) where the muscles of the uterus nudge the baby down and out without the mother pushing (this is how women in comas have managed to birth whilst being unconscious). It is forced pushing that puts women at risk of tearing, damaging their pelvic floor, distressing the baby, or needed an episotomy.

In HypnoBirthing we teach a breathing technique to help the body relax and work with your muscles to help your baby down and out with no forced pushing, my 2nd stage of my HypnoBirth was recorded as less than 2 minutes.
The more relaxed the body is the easier the process.

There is a lot of published evidence to back up what we call ' Birth breathing' is is also known as 'mother spontaneous pushing' or 'open-glottis breathing'

Just remember your body is perfectly designed to birth your baby, just as it is to concieve it, grow it, and feed it once it has been born
