lock Impact of caesarean births on mother and baby

Right guys, this thread is locked! You need to all stop judging each other! I'm pretty damn sure that women didn't fight to be treated with respect by men and law just do we can treat each other like this!

You had natural, good on you - I'm bloody Jealous!
You had a great c-section - fab! I'm happy for you!

Now get over it, and unless you can give non judgemental advice to new moms who are terrified and trying to make the best choice for them, then please for the love of God be quiet!

ps feel free to blame my bitchyness on pms, lack of sleep and sugar - I sure as hell do.

Giving birth is the most intense and amazing experience you could ever have, why would you pass it up?

Some people who were sexually abused or raped (and I have read in a few psychology articles) are often advised against natural birth because natural birth could trigger major anxiety for such a person while giving birth, as the sensation of giving birth could be the same feeling as the abuse or rape you have survived.

So, if a person judges you as too "posh too push" it could really hurt another person's feelings especially if they feel they have made the best decision for mother and baby in their specific situation.

Our bodies were designed to grow a tiny human being inside of us in the short time of 9 months, and our bodies were also just as cleverly designed to get that baby out!

I totally agree with Kirst about the elective c/sec being the same as an elective boobjob. It is unnessacary surgery. SA is one of the very few countries who actually have elective c/sections, here in Europe they will laugh at you if you ask for one. It is all done naturaly and the c sections are kept for emergencies- the way i think it should be.

I will probably get killed for saying this but I look down on women who have elective c-sections and I get very annoyed with women who are too posh to push.

Giving birth is the most intense and amazing experience you could ever have, why would you pass it up?

I had a very tough delivery, i had an episiotomy and 3rd degree tear and they had to use the vacuum, but i would gladly do it all over, rather than have a c-section.

Just my two cents as well.... Thanks for the info Nef, I read through the article with an open mind. My baby is going to be born 30th of Nov via c-sec, and I truly believe, for me, that is the right choice. Yes, people do ask me why, and look at me like I'm a piece of sh*t. I just wish people would respect others' choices. My gynae explained everything to me, and left the choice completely up to me. I love him to bits for not trying to persuade me to do anything I don't want to.

The thing is.....I just have this extreme fear of birthing natural, I cannot imagine pushing a baby through my vjay, I am very sensitive down there. I do have the choice, therefor I'm not going to put myself through all that stress, which I feel is better for my baby as well. I do have the utmost respect for all of you who have stressfree and wonderful normal births, wish I could feel that way as well, and have the guts to do it. I am looking forward to my babies' birth, and I do not feel less a woman for not having the guts to go natural.

I guess the fighting over this topic is never going to end, and Nef, thanks again for sharing this with us. Some people just take it the wrong way. In the end we all want happy and healthy babies, instead of fighting, let's rather celebrate the birth of our little gifts!!!

Miss Kay - I love the fact that your post is about YOU and YOUR experience and YOUR choices and that you don't drag others over the coals for their choices. Very well said in the midst of some ignorant comments from both sides of the fence here and also a few personal attacks which I hate.

Hmmm my post kept dissapearing for days that I actually gave up.

I am a proud natural birth mom and don't dream of a C-Sec and I thank my gynae cause with my first baby weighing 4kg,the nurses talked him into cutting me cause my bones were not stretching and naturally small down there,I loved his response"the same way baby came in,is the same way baby will come out."Labour pains were also not a nightmare, then baby came NATURALLY,when baby was taken to nursery I got up walked to my ward had a nice warm bath and the following morning was discharged.I have a healthy baby girl, full of life and never been sick.

2nd time around,dr suggested that I have a C-Sec and my gynae said I rather travel 320km to have a natural cause there is no need as baby is already dead. For most women birthing an angel is traumatic but I enjoyed mine cause it was natural,no tearing and following day I was present at baby's funeral with no VJJ pains just emotional ones.

I love my gynae cause he doesn't look at how much money he will make by performing a C-Sec but does whats best for baby and I and most importantly my choise.

I am not jealous of a mother who had a C-Sec and happy for them as long as they are content with their choices. My sister with her last child had a C-Sec which gynae decided to cover the wound and in 2 weeks she was smelling cause it started to ROT.

Oh my VJJ is intact, you won't even say I had 2 natural births.I don't think it makes any woman less of a woman because of their birthing choice, that's my 2cent opinion and what doesn't work for me doesn't mean it won't work for someone.

Marie wrote: Kirst's words:"True, if someone wants to "elect" to have major surgery and be sliced open through how many layers of tissue, it's their body (and their child's) and their choice.

What I want to know is, why does my medical aid refuse to pay for the "elective" boob job that I'm considering having? "

Kirst, that comment is just pathetic!! I do not have any idea how you can compare birth to having breast surgery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marie as far as I am concerned a totally elective c-sec where there is absolutely no medical reason for it, is the same as a boob job where there is no medical reason for it. Both are unnecessary surgeries, with the attendant risks, and it is beyond me why anyone would want to have surgery unless it was for life-saving reasons or to correct disfigurement. In fact a boob job is better in that you are only taking the risks for yourself and not for your child aswell. Your choice.
