Thanks for your awesome replies guys.

Nicolette and Juno, I'd love to take a look at the Bebe range but I'm currently based in the US and it seems the range is only in Europe and SA!

2kmm, I found the Inglesina on Amazon but didn't see it in the stores - I'm going to see if I can hunt it down somewhere so that dh and I can actually try it out.

The Stokke does look pretty awesome! It seems to be going for about R7k here - maybe I'll wait for after Christmas and see if it goes on sale.

Thanks guys!

I had the peg perego pliko travel system which I thought was an excellent pram. Unfortunately we found that it didn’t handle different terrains very well and as a very out doorsy family found it restricted our movements. I sold it after about 6 months. Their resell value is excellent by the way.

I would have gone for the peg perego GT3 which is their three wheeler but was not willing to take the risk of getting it imported without actually trying it out first. You do get the peg where the stroller seat can be removed and baby seat clips in as an individual unit by the way. I think it's about R500 more so probably worth it. I just loved the cocoon effect you got by using the main seat and car seat together - so nice and cosy.

I ended up getting a bebe confort high trek which is an awesome three wheeler pram with a detachable stroller seat. The stroller seat is not suitable for new borns. Although the pram doesn't come with a baby car seat, most of the well known seats e.g. maxi cosi fit onto the frame as a separate unit until you are able to use the stroller seat as a unit on it's own which you can do from about 3 months. The baby seat cannot fit onto the stroller seat. You can only use the one or the other.

I love the soft but durable fabric of this pram (bamboo mix) and the fact that it’s so easy to wash. It’s manoeuvrability is also awesome – you can quite easily steer with one hand. It is also an absolute pleasure to push on a more rough terrain - it's got shock absorbers of note. It also reclines in a nice flat position for sleeping. I think one of the top three important features of any pram is that it can lie completely flat..

These prams are in the 5k-6k range. At least they were when I got mine.

I had a Chelino as a first pram but had all sorts of problems with it. Though I know many who are very happy with theirs.

I would suggest not rushing into anything. It took three tries to get something that worked for me. Just make sure you consider as many scenarios as you can think of. I have no idea why terrain did not raise a red flag when I was first looking at prams.

PS. While on the subject the Maxi Cosi car seat was the best decision I ever made for when you start looking for car seats for 12 kg’s +.

I have the Peg Switch, but WISH I had got the Loola Bebe Comfort. It is just sooo much more compact and easy to handle. The Peg is a good pram though, but if I could choose again, I would choose the Bebe. I like that in the beginning, you don't have to use the entire pram. But, if money was not an option I would buy the Stokke (drool)

Only one pram for me. Igelsina Zippy. The whole pram is a treat but the thing I loved best abou it was that you could take out the whole seat entirely and just clip the car seat into the fram which was awesome in the first few months. It's an umbrella fold so much like the Peg. It's sturdy has excellent shock absorption on the wheels for outside travel and performs excellently indoors too. Just love this pram. It's also very comparable in price to the Peg.

I'm still a fan of our Loola - Bebe Confort.
To answer the questions:
a) No pram is light - but this one compares well. The travel seat (which you carry around a lot in the beginning - I remember to be lighter than most.
b) Nice and compact, especially in the beginning when you take out the travel seat - because it is then only the frame that needs to be folded up.
c) It is REALLY a one-handed system. I managed easily to fold it up with my baby on my hip.
d) Yes. I travelled overseas recently and borrowed someone's pram, and that made me realise how nicely our system maneuvers! HOWEVER - it is quite difficult to master going up and down pavements - but once you've mastered it, it's easy!
e) The baby unit has a "sun flap" which is big and works quite well. But because you can turn the seat around (face forward or face backwards) its often possible to get baby out of the sun by turning the seat. It does come with a rain cover - but we never used ours, and I've heard it's not that user friendly.
f) Yes,. it's a travel system. You pay extra for the base (a couple of years back it was about R600. Snaps in easily and comes out equally easily!
g) Not much storage space at the bottom - which I know bugs some people. Definitely not enough space for grocery shopping!! But enough for a couple of bits and bobs, baby bag etc.
h) Yes, it has what looks like shock absorbers/suspension.
g) Yes it has a reversible seat which is better than reversible handles, because you lose a lot of steering ablitity when the handles reverse! Having baby face you is especially important when they're little, and as I said above, for the sun!

Extra's:
The pram comes with two separate seats. One for when baby is smaller - and then a second one for when baby is bigger. Unlike most other travel systems, where the early seat fits into the later one, with this pram, the early seat sits in the frame, and when baby is big enough, you take out a brand new seat. So you feel like you've got a new pram!!!
The handles are adjustable (so it's comfortable for short and tall people!
Excellent customer services. We had a little problem, and Baby City sorted it out without question, saying that they were instructed to "keep the customer happy" and sort it out with Loola in their time!!

The Loola is on the expensive side, but we've loved ours.

Hope this helps.

Mandy, awesome thread! thank you!

I am looking at the Chelino C3, the Chelino Larenza and the Chelino Twister. All seem good value for money but I am worried about their durability compared to more expensive options.

Comments from mom's who have made bad choices will also be useful I think.
