Wow Justine - what an awesome story. I have heard fantastic things about Ciska!! What hospital were you at - Vincent Palotti? Those scan weight readings are so unrelieable - my daughter was estimated at 4.2kg, and came out at 3.56kg - so similar miscalculation to you. I carried to 11 days over my EDD. But then my gynae opted for a caesar - she said I was not favourable for an induction, and she did a sweep but it was unsuccessful. I do believe that she did the right thing, but I will always wonder whether the outcome would have been different had I been with a midwife (or had doula labour support) instead.

hi Nicolette, glad you aked because finally i have an end to the story!
I waited and waited... Then on monday at 9 days overdue my midwife did a second sweep.
I made a plan that if things hadnt started by end tues, i booked in for an induction tues midnight.
Monday night at 8 pm, had first contraction while putting my son to bed.
Had a bath and three more contractions. Called the midwife at 9pm, met her at the hospital at 9:30 pm and little oscar was born 45 minutes later at 10:15 pm!
No tearing, thanks to the midwifes instructions of how hard and when to start/stop pushing.
She was amazing!(Ciska from Birth Options, Cape Town).
oscar weighed 3.63 kg, after the scan people said 4.25 kg!
All happy, feeding ok... And soooooooo glad to finally be on the baby side of pregnancy! :)

Joybaby, Claudia, thanks for your responses.
You're right about the psychological hump. Wish I'd not convinced myself that this one would be early!
See he's about 400gs bigger than my first born at the same stage (though i know the scans have a serious error bar). And i guess im just getting stressed that the longer this whole thing continues, the harder its going to be.
Ah well. Guess theres nothing to do but wait.
Thanks again,
justine

I had a sweep with my first and labour began 2 days later. You do bleed a bit after a sweep. Its not a guarantee though - I know someone who had 2 and still landed up being induced. I'm going to refuse one this time round unless I'm closer to the 42 week mark as not only did I hate the experience last time, but I dont think it actually caused labour to begin. Shame, man hang in their, baby will come when ready (although I know how it sucks to go past due dates (I actually wish edd was given at 42 weeks because going past dates is such a psychological hump)

Hi Justine

My friend had a sweep the day before her boy was due, and she had her baby the next day. I dont think its meant to bring labour on immediately but meant to help the body along, much like an induction but less invasive.

If you are bleeding and getting BH do you not think you could be in labour already?
Bleeding would signify a show which comes shortly before labour?
I think you're just about there!!!

First angel resting 25/06/2009 stayed with us a short 7 weeks but we still miss you.
