Horrible Gynae Visit

All I can say is NO NO NO! You should definitely not be treated like this.
I dont know if maybe she had a bad day, lost a patient or something, but its your fiest scan, first baby. This is a memorable time for you and you want to feel like your scans are important.

My gynae always entertained our questions and ooohs aaaahs were smiled upon. He allowed me to bring guests, and always had a sit down after the scan to discuss what came next and allow us to ask questions.
Gynae visits are generally 'rushed' but that's because there's not usually much to talk about, but if there are any concerns or questions they do allow you the time and answer them - sometimes not how we want, unfortunately doctors lack people skills (they even have classes on just this at uni), but you should feel like your dr cares.

Hi ZoeCat - when I visited my gynae during my pregnancy she made me feel like I was the ONLYy person in the world having a baby - I felt SO special - and I really looked forward to my visits - in fact I was very sad after I'd had my 6 week check-up post birth because I knew that would be my last visit. I now actually look FORWARD to my annual pap smear. That's how lovely my gynae is!! She had us so excited, and feeling so secure. It's definitely time for you to get a new gynae!! Good luck.

No! Thats terrible!! She is definatly the last person you want delivering her baby!!! She should have asked if you had any concerns etc.

With my first visit the gyne showed excitment when i told her about the pregnancy (first time we had meet) and explained what the first trimester held for me. We did a scan and he explained everything that showed on the monitor. He explained the symptons i might be feeling and how to react to it etc. He then sent me of at the same time to do all the necessary blood work. He was a pleasure everytime we went and always cared on how we were doing. He really helped me relax and supported me during my birth.

Im sorry to hear that your first experiance had to go like this, it should have been exciting and comfortating!

Hi All

I am 8 weeks pregnant and had my first Gynae visit with my hubby yesterday.
The Gynae is based at the Mulbarton Hospital.

When we went in to her office she greeted us without a smile.
She asked me how could she help me, and I explained to her that I'm 8 weeks.

She proceeded to ask a few questions, and then said that I must go into the examining room.

I went in, and she did the ultra sound.
My husband came in, obviously to see our creation. She didnt even proceed to show him the screen.
She just told me "There is a baby there. There is only one baby there, and thats the heartbeat," pointing to the screen.

She then abruptly tore the pic of the scan of the machine, handed it to my husband and walked back into her office.

This doctor was very cold and seemed like she hated her job.
She did not even smile once. And I felt so uncomfortable in her presence.

She didnt offer any advise, or ask me whether I had any questions.
She was just done with me.

It wasnt even 15 minutes and the charge was R1200.

Is this normal for your Gynae to treatt you in this manner?
I surely don't want this woman to deliver my baby with her attitude!

I will be looking for another Gynae in my area, and will never return to this doctor.

The problem is this is my first time, and I don't know whats expected on your first appointment. I left her rooms feeling like it was a waste of my time.
