Hi Ladies,
Cleo not sure if you are checking in, but still thinking about you- please let us know how you are doing.
Zodwa, I know how you feel, Dr gave me something for the morning sickness, cause its all day and everyone says its fine, when I checked it out on google it said it was fine, but I am always reluctant to take anything during pregnancy, so took it for two days and then decided to rather deal with the sickness than the worry- Meds didn't help much in any case. When do you go for your 12 week check up, sure everything will be ok?
In terms of hypnobirthing, you must check out Beautifully born, Kim is on Moomie, she is in Cape Town- I am in JHB and she flew here for a weekend when I did my course with her, she is great and offered support throughout my pregnancy. Hyponobirthing takes practice and work, there is relaxation exercises every day, a book and c.d's that guide you through the process as well as the course. I dont think I would do another course, I have started listening to my relaxation Cd's again and will read the book again, but highly recommend the course if you haven't done one before.
what i loved most about the course was it taught me to trust my body and that you need to stop thinking intellectually about birthing, just get out the way and let your body do it. I had a 12 hour labour with my first, only went to the hospital when I was 6cm dilated and managed a completely natural birth with no pain meds or epidural, it wasn't a walk in the park, but a good experience and is the route I will take again. Hypnobirthing helped me to relax, which in turns help with managing pain/ discomfort
I didn't like the hospital route though, felt it was a bit cold and sterile- You spend time finding a gynea you like and then when you get to the hospital you get a midwife for most of the birth, that you have never met or who isn't your choice (ours was nice enough thought), this time we will be looking at more of a midwife led pregnancy at Genesis clinic (where I can chose the midwife) I feel it will also be more supportive of natural birth and more home like.
Let me know if you have any other questions
