Hi IreneL, I was actually shopping for PJs yesterday for the hospital and I decided against pants and am looking around for an oversized t-shirt or nightie. I'm planning on a natural birth however in an emergency am prepared for a c-section so would probably just plan to avoid any unnecessary obstructions around my tummy area for now. First time mom - no idea what to expect. I guess I'm just trying to make it as comfortable as possible for myself. I did buy big fluffy comfortable slip-on slippers from Woolworths as easier to slip into hopping on / off the bed. My mom suggested cotton "granny panties" for comfort after birth and also for those dreaded maternity pads.

Thanks for the feedback Antz08, Nels_n and mrstl!

I keep forgetting to check which size yoga pants I already have - want to buy a bigger size for hospital. Woolies has a sale now and they have those for R100 each, as suppose to R180. Sounds like most people liked the yoga pants option, so I will get those and then also strap tops (I like the Woolies ones too, Mrstl, I even wear them now whilst pregnant!), and then also a couple of bigger T-shirt just in case I don't feel comfortable in the yoga pants.

Someone also advised to take some normal pads along as well, as they preferred that to the maternity ones. So I've also made a note to take maternity ones and regular ones, just in case.

Thanks for all the tips, really helps!!

I am also firmly on the yoga pants bandwagon. I also bought 6 of those HUGE granny panties at PEP (cotton ones). The maternity pads fit into in quite easily and I could just throw it away afterwards. It is also big enough and comes up high enough so that it won't even come close to your C-section scar if you're having one.

I also gave birth in Jan so just had a summer gown but it is SUPER hot in hospital (I had one of my lg's towelling burp cloths (made from old school nappies) that I wiped my brow with the whole time.

You are going to (if you breastfeed) have your breasts out more often than not so wear a top that doesn't take any effort in "releasing" them ;) (I found the Woolies stretchy cotton strappy tops without the built in bra's worked wonderfully)

I also had bigger pants (similar to yoga ones last time) and they helped alot. This time I have bigger comfy size yoga pants and feeding vests and a light gown as last time i had the bulky one and it was hot and uncomfy to move around in. Less is def more, button up pjs always uncomfy for me preggy or not so I wont use any of those. I bled alot(even with a csection) but changed very often so didnt really have stains on my pants.

Morning Irene

I normally dont sleep in a nightie... and prefer shorts or pants... I hate having my panty "hang out"

I must say i loved that the Yoga pants kept that big bulky pad in place... in fact i messed less when i wore the Yoga pants as opposed to other PJ pants...

I also bled quite profusely after natural birth and found i was quite comfy in those pants.

I also found that the Edgars Shelley range of panties worked well with those pads, instead of the maternity panties. And they are cheap enough to throw away if you mess... it also just held the pad better in place.

I gave birth at Femina and we could regulate our room temperature ourselves... the only time i needed a gown was if i ventured out of my room - normally bath time for baby. Everything you need is in your room but a light gown for cover up would work well...

I also wore the Peek-a-Moo camisoles and tops in hospital, made feeding so much easier!

All the best with the birth!
