Is here anyone who maybe knows of Dr Julie van Aardt @ Femina?

Since its not your first C-section and your hubby knows what to expect, you will probably be fine without a doula. Femina has great staff.

For a scheduled c-section, a doula will normally not charge a full birth rate, as its over far quicker and there is no getting up at 3am...
So you are probably looking at around R500 - R2000 depending on the individual and the amout of support you want to have after the birth.

I'm meeting my gynae today, and I've typed out all my questions as well as my C-section birth plan. She's a very straight forward kind of gal, so she'll tell me straight up if my birth plan will be honoured or not.

I had the most amazing experience @ Pretoria East hospital during an emergency C-section and I just want to have that again

After we've met with the gynae today we'll arrange for a hospital tour @ Femina with all our other questions.

Just out of interest - how much do doula's cost?!

I honestly had all the help and assistance I needed with my first, and hubby boarded with me, so he was constantly there as well to assist - which was an amazing help to me!!! This time aroun he'll be boarding with me again, whilst our daughter stays with my parents at night.

No, doula is a very big help with a c-section. Helps you with skin to skin, immediate breastfeeding and a lot of support after the birth. Basically that person who can help you with the birth plan laison between parents, gynie and hospital.

Seeing my gynae tomorrow and hope to have all my questions answered...

The best is to discuss your birth plan with your gynie, and its a good idea to get a doula to assist you during the birth. There are only two doulas with working rights at Femina at the moment (I am not one of them), if you want details, let me know then I will forward it to you.

Thanks! Yes, I confirmed and she has birthing rights at Femina.

I'll just confirm with her on Monday (my next appointment) how everything will work in case of in an emergency, booking my bed etc etc... As she's not based there, I have NO idea how the actual hospital and their process & procedures work. If I have questions about my birth plan for example, who do I take it up with? My gynae based @ EM or with someone at Femina?

We'll book a hospital tour after my appointment next week just to go check everything out and to get some peace of mind
