Hi Schwikks

im also having my baby at Femina. this is my fourth and I had all of them there, plus I did my training there while I was studying nursing. my fav doc is dr Dempers though its difficult to get an app with him because he is so busy. my present gynae is from Medforum but does deliver at femina. D Swart is a nice guy, he always had this dry sense of humor from what I remember and it was always fun to do procedures with him. I have never seen him being rude to any of his patients while working there, he would get irritated with us nurses but only when we didn't do things right coz he always puts his patients first.

I am looking for a good Gynae in Pretoria.
I had my daughter at Eugene Marais by c section, but was not entirely happy with the gynae and paed there, although the facilities and nurses were great.

I have heard good things about Kloof med clinic and Femina. Any recommendations on a gynae at these two hospitals who work with a good paed?

I have been told that the following gynaes are quite good:
Dr. Anel Mostert - Kloof
Dr Swart - Femina (Heard very mixed reviews here??? I have heard he can be quite rude but others say he is the best???)
Dr Marais - femina
dr Mouton - Femina
Both Dr van Aardt's - Femina

What are these two hospitals like for c sections?
Any advice or experiences you can share?

Hi - I see some of the mommies hijacked your post  I was at Eugene Marais with my 2nd till 18weeks and then moved over to Dr Judy van Aardt @ Femina. I'm so glad I made the move!!! You can't compare the level of service... I'm due in November and have not once hesitated my move to Femina or Dr van Aardt.

Oh yes, and I'm also having c-sec.

Hi Zee - I am so sorry for your loss. What an awful experience that must have been.

My doctor discovered the myoma's on my first scan at 5 weeks. He immediatelly put me on utrogestan (progesterone) to keep my uterus calm and to avoid contractions and a possible m/c. He did stress the dangers of the myoma's and that I could end up in early labour or loose the baby. I had to stop with most things, no heavy lifting, no sex, no gym. I really took good care of myself and prayed non stop.
With every visit the myoma's were visible (I had two at the time). At one time they were 12cm in diameter. That is big. The problem is they can move under the placenta and cause the placenta to come loose and that would then cause early birth. I had a full pregnancy and a c section was done at 38 weeks. I could not even consider normal birth.

I think it matters where they myoma's are placed. Mine was in the lining of the uterus and the doctor said I should have struggled to fall pregnant but I did not. In fact we did not even plan it.

He could not remove the myoma's with the c-section - because they are full of blood vesels and if he did that with the c-section and all the hormones, I could bleed to death. So I had the miomectomy done 18 months after my sons birth.

Maybe it is a good idea for you to have them removed before you get pregnant again. My doctor is at the Wilgers. Not too far from Centurion. He is very old but he has so much experience and knows what he is doing.

I struggled to find a gynae in Pretoria when I fell pregnant (some dont take pregnant patients, some are full for over a year, some only take discovery etc etc.). I then started down the list of gynaes at the Wilgers and he was the first one I phoned. I phoned on the monday and got an appointment on the Thursday. He is not fully booked for months. If I had to phone today I would probably get an appointment for next week.
My immediate thought was that he is not good because why can he help me so soon???? I went in any case and was very at ease.
Days later, one of my directors and I was talking about my pregnancy and he asked which doctor I was seeing. I told him I am with Dr Stegmann and he said I could not get any better than that. My director's wife is a GP and she had a molar pregnancy and her doctor mis-diagnosed it. She used to assist dr Stegmann with his deliveries and she went to him and he immediately diagnosed it as a molar pregnancy and saved her life. The baby had to be aborted but she was fine. That made me feel even better.

His office is at the Wilgers consulting rooms and he is contracted into the medical aid. His number is 012 807 3023.
If you do decide to go see him, I really hope you like him as much as I do.
Good luck and all the best!

Ninies

I had a miscarriage in June 2015 at 14 weeks, my Dr discovered I had myomas at 12week during my US. I asked him if it will affect the baby and he said the baby seem to b placed in a separate location and it wont be a problem. 2 weeks late I started experiencing what was almost like menstrual pains, I immediately went to see my gynae, did a scan and he assured me that all was good but maybe the myomas were causing the pressure. I explained my lack of sleep from pain and constant constipation and also I struggled to pee. he sent me home with nothing, nothing to ease the pain or anything to balance the hormones.

How did you cope with your pregnancy and would you be so kind and give me your Dr s contacts. I feel my Dr failed me and he wasn't even sure what caused my MC. He now wants to operate and have the myomas removed, im only 30yrs and have no kids. im terrified of anything that my hinder with my fertility chances.

Please help ladies. I'm in centurion, any advice or recommendations from you guys will help. I want to be a mom so bad.

So sorry to hear about your miscarriage. That is just awful that the doctors says its implantation bleeding, without doing any effort to actually check!!!! Its just so upsetting.

But I am happy that you got to your miracle doctor and that everything is ok now. I am also taking utrogestan. Also got prescribed with first baby. Seems like my doctor also does not want to take any chances - he says the utrogestan keeps the uterus nice and soft and stops any contractions that could cause miscarriage.

You are lucky that the nausea stopped early for you. Mine only started at 6 weeks. It is not that bad that I have to throw up. I am also hungry all the time but cant decide what I am hungry for.
