file Who was with you when baby was born?

Marijke - sounds like exactly the scene that DH's family is hoping for. I, on the other hand, want a more quiet, personal experience. Just trying to figure out how to break this news to them. My mom knows I don't want anyone there and she respects that.

Reluctant Mom - NO!! I REALLY don't want her there. I told DH that I did not want any visitors until the evening.

Just trying to hear if other ladies allow their MIL's to be there. Mine is really overbearing :)

Oh yes, forgot to add that the hospital allowed everyone to look at B through the window of the nursery after she was born while I was in recovery (this was at 8pm) and as they were wheeling me out of recovery to my room we met the whole caboodle in the hallway. The nurses pushing the bed allowed everyone to congratulate me

My husband was with me through the whole induction and emergency c-sec experience :S

In the coffee shop of the hospital (for 8 hours) were my parents, my inlaws, and both my sisters with their husbands and their 4 children! I felt the pressure but my mother wanted to hear nothing of staying home :)

Most hospitals with only allow you and your partner into the theatre when you are having a c-section. There are quite a lot of people in there i.e. ana-guy, nurses, theatre nurses, paed, paed nurse, OGBYN, his assistant and so on.

With my c-section I had my friend in with me as well - I wanted him to take photographs and really had to kick up a fuss to get him in to the surgery with me. Like really throw a fit.

If you are having a c-section, the hospital will not allow visitors on the first day, so MIL will not be able to be there - unless you give specific permission and really really make a fuss.

I can't comment in terms of a vaginal birth as I am not sure what the procedure is then, but may be one of the other moms can comment.

Do you want your MIL there - not sure by the tone of your post.

Ladies, just a quick question. Did any of you have family/friends at the hospital (not necessarily in the room) with you when your baby was born (as in waiting outside the delivery room while you gave birth/had a ceasar)?

Reason I ask is that my MIL seems to think that she is going to be outside the waiting room while I am having a caesar or giving birth and that she is going to be the first one to hold baby (besides DH and I) because she never had this experience with her own children because she was under aneasthetic.

Any of you have this experience??
