I don't believe in biting back. Yes it does encourage the same behaviour. Smacking does too with Dylan. He smacks me back which is so not on. I am struggling but just keep on saying no.

I find that he bites me when he is teething and what did work was to get him to bite himself. Each time he tried to bite me I would put his finger in his mouth and tell him to bite that rather.

Kimika I agree. If I say ouch Dylan thinks it is really funny. If I pretend to cry he seems to react more appropriately.

Trial and error.

Mom of Dylan and Partner to Joerg. We live in the Beautiful Pringle Bay which is along the Whale coast, Cape.

Meags, I believe in ignoring them to a point.. but what Joli says does make a lot of sense! Tell them that its wrong and then from there on ignore... Young children look at your reaction when they do something.. so the *ouch* you give when he bites you is pure amuzement for him!

Sjoe Meags. That's terrible. Really hope you get your money eventually. Glad you didn't just leave it!

When are you going overseas?

Yip, tell the mom to do that too. Hope it works. Megan use to bite when she got cross / upset. Kayla just bit for the fun of it!

Yes that's Megan when she was just over 3 months old. She's already 2!

Thanks for the advice Joli :)
I will try that :) and tell the mommy to try it too. I think consistency is also the key so it will be best to do the same discipline.

Thanks for the compliment - I love your profile pic too. is it your baby????? tooooooo cute for words :)

This job is only for 2 weeks while the parents go overseas for their wedding anniversary! And no, I havent had payment yet from that other family. Can you believe it??????

I have sent the letter of demand on 15 April. This gives them 14 days to pay then the court will summons them.

In the letter, I have said I expect the R750 and R2500 for the month of April as they booked me for this month and now are not using me, and I turned other families away...For now, I'm happy to just get the R750, the court can decide about the R2500 if they havent paid within these 14 days...

Sigh...what a mission....

Glad you got some work :-). Did you get payment from that other couple?

I don't agree on biting back - you will actually show him that it's OK to bite. Some moms will disagree with me. Both my girls went through a biting phase and with both of them - as soon as they bite, I would put them down and say very loudly and very seriously - NO, WE DON'T BITE EACH OTHER and then I would walk away. They would normally cry a bit and once they've calmed down, I would pick them up and say again - but nice and soft this time - we don't bite each other, it hurts. And then I would just carry on normally and would not mention it again until the next time. They both stopped within a week or so. Good luck. I like your profile pic :-)

Hi ladies

I just want to post a topic because I can!! I miss having loads of topics to read through on PF....

So I'm looking after a 16 month old little boy at the moment and I have to say, DAMN he is bloody cute!!!!!!!!!
Only thing is, he is going through the biting and pinching phase.

When he gets too excited, he grabs your face and pinches really hard and tries to bite you.
He's managed to mark my face right by my eye :(

The mom is happy for me to smack him or bite him back as she is very worried about him biting other kids (which he does)...

What has worked for you ladies???
