That doesn't sound good at all. I agree with Julz, she should think about changing her caregiver, especially seeing that you, too, had bad experiences with him.

All the best for your friend!

I tend to agree with you. It is really bad that he didn't personally phone her and normally a second test has to be set up a couple months later to test again.

It is possible to have hpv and not have warts.

I think she should maybe consider a change of doctor.

Yaz and Julez, thanks for the links you posted, I am forwarding it to her.

Hopefully she will get some clarity on the subject.

Yaz, i don't know all about it. As i understand they told her they found a-typical cells. And we googled it, apparently you can have a-typical cells found just because you had a recent period. The gyni didn't even let her know, the receptionist phoned her. But then when she went back when she got pregnant, the gyni told her this load of crap about how the baby would be born with warts all over.

Only then did she ask him to test for HPV, and it came back positive. I don't know how he knew that it was that if there is no warts... Now he says she has to get a section.

But first they did not let her know the outcome of the test and when she phoned them after a week, the receptionist told her the test came back negative and all was fine. She went to see the gyni for a follow up scan at 8 weeks and he showed her her result saying that it is positive.

Personally I think this gyni is an idiot. I almost lost my baby in my first pregnancy because of him. So hopefully I can convince her to go to a pro-natural gyni for a second opinion. We are both pregnant me 2 weeks further than her, and we were so excited about it. Now it all has a horrible feel to it.

Anina, when you say they found atypical cells on her pap smear, do you mean they found cells that indicate early stages of cervical cancer or actually HPV? Many many women unknowingly carry the HP Virus in them without presenting with symptoms. It does increase the risk for developing cervical cancer though, so it's important she goes for regular pap smears every six months after her pregnancy.

Babycenter has a very good article on HPV during pregnancy:

Anina that is quite horrible as the risk is really low. Maybe she should chat to her gp for a second opinion.

Give her time to get over all this. HPV is associated with higher risk of cervical cancer too so your friend has lots to deal with.

Thanks for the replies girls. As I understand there is no warts at the moment. They picked it up when they found a-typical cells in a papsmear. And then tested for it as the doc suspected HPV.

I don't have to much info as she is a bit shy about it. But the gyni told her that she will absolutely have to get a C-section as the baby will be born with warts all over his airways if she goes natural. I think this is a bit harsh and there is so many risks to C-sections that she might as well go for it. I told her to go for a second opinion but she is so defestaded that she doesn't want to do anything about it. She isn't even excited about the pregnancy that she has been longing for so long.

Anina, I also know of someone who had the virus. Her doctor told her that because she already had the virus when she fell pregnant, she could have a vaginal birth. I am not exactly sure how that makes it different though. Your friend can still have vaginal birth, but will unfortunately put the baby at risk of contracting the virus as well. There is always the chance that she births naturally and the baby does not get the virus. But, she needs to decide whether or not she wants to take that risk and find a doctor who will be willing to risk it as well.
