I agree on taking the pain medication as prescribed. If you skip them, the pain builds up, and it so much harder to "break" the pain again if you waited too long to drink them.
I would also recomend the belly belt/wide elastic band thingy.

O, and i think being fit does help a lot. Start a good excercise program that strenghtens your muscles like yoga/pilates.

All I can say is take your meds on time regardless of the level of pain. Rather prevent pain then cure it.

You will need help at home. Take it easy and rest as much as you can.

You are going to want to hunch over - please don't or you will have back problems along with sore tummy.

pressure does help so a belly band or just placing a pillow over your tummy when you get up will help alot.

Your recovery time is really affected by so many things which is factors, and thus each person and each pregnancy recovery is different.

Factors that do help - being fitter, being slimmer, being able to get more rest before, during and after.

Factors that do not help - being a bit overweight, being unfit, having existing kids, not having help with housework and the like, thinking you are feeling better and start moving around before you actually are.

I have keloids - keloid symptoms include dome-shaped, shiny, raised scars that may be itchy, even painful. Basically my scars do not heal well, and pretty much look infected for about a year - yumm I hear you say!

With my first c-section I healed quickly, the pain was very manageable - I put it down to the fact I was fit, very slim and did not have other children - also baby was born in December, so it was warmer, and I think these were all contributors.

Even after 3 c-sections I cannot really give advise on how to make it better - other than take your meds, take more meds, take it as easy as you can, listen to your body and its twinges - if you are in pain, lie down a bit, or move slowly.

Be super aware of picking up stuff - your other kids as well.

I can really recommend the belly belt, worked wonders for me, pull it down right over the scar (i know it is scary, but trust me it helps the healing)
The day after I came home with baba I was already out and about, baba went to Brass Bell for Mocktails :P

Hallo

I know it's so hard to take it easy, but you must. As Zeltjie, i had a painful nerve on the right end of the wound, esp when i was climbing up the bed or turning.

i went to the doctor he said it's normal, but i should minimise my movements, and i was already driving myself (2nd wk)

the best thing to do is to take it easy, and take your medication.

i was taking tramacet and voltaren, but i stopped the voltaren as it was burning my a**s out of its hole.

tivaniag, i was also shit scared and it turned to be the opposite of what people told me, so don't worry hun, u'll b fine.

Hugs

Such a great topic Kangomom! I hope lots of women respond. I am having a c-section in November and I am petrified and would love to hear what the rest of the ladies have done to make their recoveries quick. I for one will have no support when baby is born and DH is off for two weeks only so I am very very worried and scared.
