Evestyles - definitely try again until you get someone who can give you an answer because I was specifically told that no intervention was needed from the board for pregnancy cases - you either pregnant or you not. THe cases that go to the board are for chronic illnesses and then they decide if they are going to cover from PMB or request further specialist testing, etc. THe board in any case meets every THursday, so they should have met yesterday and should have an answer for you today.

Hi all. Please can you provide more insight. I had my baby in Feb and all gynea visits came off my savings. Is it too late to try to claim back? What procedure should i follow?

Charnenay - I did speak to someone in Chronic Illness Department (which falls under PMB I think). She first said she couldn't see my application then she found it. Then she asked if I needed the medication urgently and I told her that it's not for meds but because I'm pregnant. She just said it gets sent to the board and I have to wait, so she escalated it to bring it to their attention.

Again, different people tell you different things. I also told her that Lesego said I would get an answer by last Friday because I do qualify.

I think I'm going to call again tomorrow and speak to someone else.

I have just sent a letter to my broker asking that they look into this for me. Will keep you posted.

Evestyles and Huggles - did you speak to someone in the PMB dept??? When I spoke to a general consultant they told me that it was waiting for the board who meets on Thursday's. But, when I was transferred to the PMB Dept. the guy there told me that not everything goes to the board and pregnancy usually doens't because it is automatically covered (let's not even mention how ironic that statement is). Anyway, he confirmed that it was approved the day after I sent it in and the consultants should have been able to see it on the system, they probably just weren't looking properly.

Evestyles - I would call again and insist on an answer sooner because you are so far into your pregnancy already.

I took your advice and called Discovery, hoping they would say that it's been approved and they just forgot to get back to me. Unfortunately not. My application was received on Monday 19th April but they still haven't done anything. Lady said she would escalate it for me and I should have an answer by Monday or Tuesday latest. She said it takes a long time because it goes to a board that have to review it. Not sure why some people's take a few days and others weeks. Anyhow, hopefully it will be sorted out soon.

P.S Anyone looking for the direct line to PMB at Discovery, call 0860 400 600 and then press option 2 for Chronic Illness Queries (something like that)

Just phoned discovery to ask about the status of my application.

The guy confirmed that my application was received on Thurs (22 April) and was sent through for review the same day. It is still under review and I should get an answer within 5-7 working days, so by Monday (3 May) at the latest.
