Shame, poor baby!

My son had baby measles but not the full on measles.

He's behind on his injections because everytime I make an appointment het gets sick and I need to cancel it again!?

Dewald also had a runny nose, earache and bad fever last week. Rushed him to the emergency room Sunday before last, and was told it was just some virus infection and he was given some Antibiotics and fever medication. This week Monday night he had a slight rash which I put down to the fact that he played in the grass. On Tuesday I picked him up after work and his rash was worse. I decided to take him to the doctor again. Guess what.... He has Measles. .

A quick update on Stian - I gave him a bit of Panado syrup for the teething pain. He went to bed at 20:00 and had no fever during the night. I had to wake him up at 06:45 this morning!

We all panic when our kids get a fever for the first time.

For the first 5 months I would run to the paed.

Then after a year I relaxed a bit and let it run for a day or two.

Now we leave it for about 3/4 days provided the fever doesn't go over 40 or if the meds don't work at all.

I listened to a Dr who spoke of convulsions today. fever related convulsions are not a concern really. The almost never cause damage and the child usually outgrows them. If your child does get convulsions then you will need to control a fever.

Low grade fever usually indicates a virus and they can't be treated with antibiotics and usually go after 3 days which is why I play the waiting game.

High grade fevers are more likely to be bacterial and persist and may meed antibiotic treatment.

A good paed or gp will usually hold off for a couple of days before prescribing antibiotics.

Monique, also try and keep him cool. i know it sounds stupid but sometimes we forget. or you think they are better and put a shirt on again which can "bring the fever back".

Julz, it really is true, I've always had a fear of fevers! I'm always so scared for convulsions and stuff - I usually run to the Dr for anything!
