potty training: seat or potty?

I've used both and it really depends on the child and what you are comfortable with. Early potty training babies I've used a potty because its smaller and more comfy for their little bums, bigger kids the toilet with a step stool. Right now I'm using a potty. Purely because J has just turned 2 and there are 2 other babies in the house so if I;m busy with them he can easily go by himself (which he does ) I've shown him how to empty the potty into the toilet and rinse it and put it back so very little input from me

I would like to know why one doesn't train your LO to sit on the toilet from the beginning of "potty training"? Should one get the seat that fits over the toilet and one of those stepladders, could it not work?

I realise that some toddlers might be scared of the toilet, but isn't it worth a try to use the toilet instead of a potty.

I hope the experienced moms can help clarify this for me.
