potty training: seat or potty?

my MIL also suggested always leaving a little water with domestos in the potty to make it easier to clean afterwards, especially when its a no 2. what are your takes on this ladies??

ive heard of mommies that line the bottom with toilet paper???

My LB didnt like a potty at all. we got 2 different ones but he didnt want to sit on them.
Then i got a bambino seat at a friend and he sits on that thing, reads a book and ..... sits LOL He sometimes yells at us if we want to take him off because "Ek wil poef" but actually he just wants to read his book
those seats are very comfortable

we also got one of those small step stools at crazy store and he can get on and off the toilet himself but most of the times we help him.

and yes, we also potty trained our LB with stickers

Hi GW. Kayla used a potty - as that was the way everyone does it and so on.

I never bought a potty for Megan. But I also never really toilet trained her. She sort of trained herself. She started going to the toilet just after she turned 2 - she would 'climbed' up and sat and did her thing. We then bought one of those things you put under the seat and later we bought one for the other bathroom - the one that goes on top of the seat (both are making the toilet 'smaller' so you don't have to hold them). Megan would run to the toilet and put the thingie on herself and wee / poo and then called us to help her wipe. She didn't even had a step (but I would recommend a step. Megan was 2 years, 4 months when she told me she does not want to sleep with a nappy anymore and we left the nappy and that was it.

The only reason I never went out and got the potty and the step and and and is because I wasn't planning on potty training her very soon - told DH she can stay on the nappy until she's 3 cause I wasn't gonna go through the same I went with with Kayla

I do prefer it this way. I never had to wash a potty with Megan - bliss! Hope I can get Callum do to the same.

Both my boys are rather short, so even with the step they struggle to turn themselves around while lifting up onto the loo, so it made having a poo a tad difficult for them.
But I also bought a funny seat - it did not fit on the toilet seat properly so moved when they were on it and it scared Brandon, so I decided to go with a potty.

But they are both happy to use either - Brandon can now get himself on & off without a step and does not need a seat.
Liam I need to hold - he also hates the seat, even tho I bought a sturdier one - one that the toilet seat holds in place.

Potties are easier tho - just remember to check that they have been emptied - especially if you have guests

The potty also worked easier for us. Sometimes Zhanelle would sit a very long time to do a number2. Using the potty meant I could leave her and didn't have to hold her on the toilet the entire time.
Her school also recommended that we use more or less the same potty as them in order to get her used to the same process at home and school.

I also encouraged her to sit on the toilet (holding her) as I have heard of LO's developing a fear of the toilet. Also I didn't want to take the potty with whenever visiting friends. She is equally comfortable on the potty or the toilet.

I agree with Julz - stickers for reward is great. I allowed Z to do with her sticker as she pleased. She stuck them on her face, legs, potty and even on the tiles next to the potty.

She received a certificate from school yesterday that she is now potty trained - very special occasion.

I started off with a potty. It is quite nice with a lid. He sits on it. Then we bought a going away potty which he also likes and he sits on our regular toilet if I hold him. Actually he sits on any toilet. As long as it is all new and exciting he is happy.

I suggest you start with a regular potty. Cheapie.

It is good for them to be able to stand, pull down pants and sit. This is the first step to potty training anyway. Them peeing in the potty is just a bonus.

Oh and stickers work well. If Dylan pees he gets a sticker which he uses to decorate the potty.
