Have to report back on the TV issue - my daughter is 5 and have a DVD player. Watched it alot...

Since I posted a thread to reduce, I did and .... I have to say she is another child!

My husband didn't believe me until he confessed to friends that he can definitely see a difference.

She watch a maximum of 30 minutes a day and not even every day. If she asks for it, I tell her to go and play with her toys. We made an effort of bringing her toys from Pta and she occupies herself much more. She listerns more and there is less tantrums. I firmly believe that TV and whatever they watch, teach them their little "attitudes".

This was definitely a POSITIVE for me, thanks!

This is a tricky topic, just like BF vs Formula, Walking ring vs no walking ring etc etc.....

My baby is 7 months old, and in the last month I have had mickey mouse on once. I have watched him and the program is about 20 min long and the only parts he is interested in are the singing parts. While the rest is going on he will fidget with toys or interact with me. Surely this will not harm him? I mean I think it is amazing that he loves music, we play it at bedtime and it is a good way to calm him. And with Mickey Mouse, the colours are vibrant and the program is quite educational-even though that part he doesn't even nearly understand.

My take, everything in moderation. I think if you have balance you have done something right. I agree that some programs are definitely not for kids and thats what adult supervision is for.

I love the little/no tv rule in our house!

B actually sits for a good while at the dinner table, she now loves playing and reading. We got her a library card and it feels like we can go several times a week. When we get home with our 5 new books we have to read all 5 one after the other. We have read 2 potty training books and 2 books on growing up and sleeping on a big girl bed which made these two processes easy as pie!

The other day she asked for 'oom jan' (jan de wet, lofkleuters) we got the second dvd from my sister but it has a couple of scratches now it jumps over only one song, "moenie bang wees nie"/ don't be scared. The song starts with a picture of two ghosts and a scary spider, now with it jumping it makes the most awful sound while this picture flashes - needless to say that night B wouldn't sleep.

So from now on we either skip that song or no dvd. But we are down to about 1 or 2 dvd's a week and zero other tv!

Lorelai is now 16months old and for the first time ever I sat her in front of the Laptop to watch Barney, she sat for 20min and got up and left.

She watches Tv at daycare but it is the first time ever she actually got to watch with me. Im very proud of myself.
