Memo, Nienke started really "talking" after one year. (I felt it took long.) She understood very well from very early on. She is now two and talks SO much. She says EVERYTHING. Big words, small words, sentences, repeats what we say, comes up with her own things, play word games with me (for instance, we'll play what "body parts" the dog has. She'll say "Poppie se owe" (Poppy's ears) and I'll say "Poppie se bene", then she'll say "Poppie se neusie" etc.)

SO they all catch on eventually.

She also said mamma quite late and babbled a lot in the beginning.

@1st Timer, I swear a LOT (obviously trying not to now). So Nienke has had the odd "fokken bal" and "kak". I just ignore it. She hasn't really picked up on it. Thankfully.

@RM, because I call my husband "Viljee", Nienke has taken to calling him that. So she'll sit in the bath and shout "Viljee, kom hieso!" Hahahaha! So funny. She does call him pappa as well but she now knows what his name is. She does occasionally call me "Jana" as well. I don't encourage it, though...

@Memo, don't feel bad. I spelled Boudoir (on the forum category list!) "boudior". It was like that for about two days. Total fail moment. One of many...

My daughter only said a couple of words about a month, month and a half ago. And in a space of about 2 weeks she has more than doubled her vocabulary! Now at 20 months she says woef, voete, hande, ta, bye, teddie, lig, kar, tietie, mama, papa, oupa, pepsie & rusty (dogs names) and a few more!
So just hang in there and be patient - before you know it, they will talk you crazy!

I must confess I had Connor who never appeared to STOP talking when he started.

When Georgia came along Connor was 3 1/2 and in full talking mode, so we actually "discouraged" Georgia from talking as we were so keen on silence.

Connor is now 9 - talks only about fishing.
Georgia is 6 - and DOES not stop talking. I asked her today if you can die from talking too much?

To be honest I am fine with one quiet child, as I am sure my brain is going to evaporate when I have all three of them talking!!

I'd like Isabelle to say "mommy" but at the moment, I am not exactly sitting infront of her with flash cards trying to get her to say as many words as possible.

<but all 3 of mine appear to be late talkers - but when they do start, they appear to make up for lost time, so I try not to lose too much sleep about it>

<don't take me too seriously my posts are often riddled with spelling and grammatical errors that I am too lazy to go back and correct>
