file HELP!!! Sleepless Nights

googlebug, shame, sounds like you are having a tough time.

To me it sounds like teething or an ear infection or other medical problem. Seperation anxiety would be very low on the list of possibilities if nothing in your routine has changed.

My LO had really bad teething pain especially at night. She would do exactly what you have described with EACH and EVERY tooth that came out. (Note, there are 20 teeth....). When she was not teething, everything was fine again and would go back to her normal sleeping routine. I did give her nurofen at night which helped a lot.

good luck....

Thanks again for your help everyone.

OMG Jupiter, that sounds aweful!!!! Your poor little boy. Lol, doubt whether that is the case but will be sure to check her cot matress just in case.

Update from my side- we tried moving her cot to our room for one night- absolute disaster- she was up screaming all night. Then tried making a little makeshift bed for her on the floor in our room by putting down her cot matress on the floor surrounded by pillows for a couple of nights (didn't spot any goggas) but she still woke up crying several times and snuck into our bed to beat us up some more, lol.

Finally on Sunday, hubby said he had had it, and she is sleeping in her cot in her room whether she likes it or not. So we took turns spending the night at her cotside on Sunday night (in her room) patting her back to sleep when she wakes up. We also tried changing the "look" of her cot by putting different bedding and teddybears, removing the mosquito net and mobile that goes over it, closing the side of the cot and facing the cot a different way.

And she has been back in her cot in her room since then, back to waking up crying twice a night (which is normal for her), but just a tiny little naggy cry, not screaming her lungs out like the previous nights. So I still have no clue what the problem was to begin with, but hopefully it is resolved. (I did notice that her gums look quite swollen so maybe there are some teeth on their way).

My son went through a stage like this too. It turned out he had bed bugs in his matress! At first you don't notice the bites because it starts off with just a few that look like mosquito bites. Then after a few days we started to notice more and more bites on him and he was waking up every night. Eventually I checked his matress, it's one of those breathable ones with holes. I used a magnifying glass and saw tiny insects! I went straight to the shop and bought him a brand new matress and he went back to sleeping through the night. Now I check his matress often to make sure they don't come back! I'm not saying your LO has bed bugs in her matress but I just wanted to share this story to let you know that it often takes a while to figure out the problem and it could be one of a number of different things. I hope things go back to normal for you soon, I really sympathise. Sleep deprivation is the pits!

Thanks ladies. Another sleepless night ending in us bringing her into our bed last night. ;)

So no to crying it out then (it just feels too cruel and doesn't seem to work anyway).

She seems to suddenly hate her cot, so I doubt whether it would even help to move the cot to our room. KerryA, she won't settle at all in her room, even if one of us is there with her till she falls asleep.

She falls asleep easily in the day- if it was an ear infection surely her day naps would also be affected? Maybe I should check it out. Teething is possible-at one she still does not have any teeth- but there have not been any other teething symptoms.

My little one also went through about a month of this and it ended in her sleeping in our bed from 12 every night

we then slowly started getting her back in her room by leaving the light on and staying in her room while she settled.

but definately before anything have her ears checked! Often not sleeping and clingyness is the only symptom of ear infection

Could be teething or ear infection...but to be honest it more sounds like she has developed seperation anxiety which is totally normal for her age. Letting her CIO is likely to make it worse. I agree with Blompotjie, get her into your room. Can't you perhaps move her cot into your room? Alternatively, you and hubby can take turns with sleeping in her room until it gets better.
