Apparently if he is not trained by 3 even after holding him back, they take him out of creche.

  :S

I am still in shock that a pre-school can actually expell a child for not being potty trained by age 3 !!!

I think I need some wine.....to calm down and manage my PMS otherwise I might be crying over all the kids who got expelled for not learning to pee in the pottty by age 3....

Hi LindaW,

I personally think it is madness to force a child to pottytrain at a certain age. I would suggest you speak to a child pshycologist before you force a child to use the potty and get a profesional opinion.

Schools vary a lot. (About a whole lot of things!) That is why you get different approaches Waldorf, Montessori, Authoritarian styles etc.
Most pre-schools that I visited does not follow the childs lead or readiness (with everything, not just pottytraining). Most kids are treated the same and are expected to conform to the norm and personal needs are often not a high priority.

I think it is the most ridicilous rule for a pre-school to say that a child is only allowed to be a member if you are pottytrained by a certain age. It says a lot about their beliefsystem and values of how people should be treated. There is no space for a person if he doesn't comply to the norm and is not worthy being part of a comunity. What a sad philosophy. Not something I would like to teach my own child.

Goodluck with your pottytraining!

Thx ladies, I agree in not forcing him, I spoke to his teacher and she suggested I carrt on sending him to school without nappies and lay of at home with the potty but I need to put pressure on him around Sep coz if he is not trained at home, they will hold him back.

A friend of mine also has a 2 year old and they are not training at school yet, wonder if it is down to the school head to decide. I love my childs creche but the principal is very strict with certain aspects. Apparently if he is not trained by 3 even after holding him back, they take him out of creche. Seems a bit harsh though.

He went to the potty this morning for the first time after I cought a bug and put it in the potty to wee wee (strange approach I know) but it seriously worked seing that he is crazy for gogos. We will see how it goes from hereon out.

I agree - madness! 2 is very early for a boy. Tell the school to stick it until YOU let them know it is time.

Hi LindaW.

I have no idea how anyone can try and force a child to pottytrain?! That is really crazy. I am not reffering to you, but the creche. Children are ready for potty training at their various ages. Yes, it does encourage them to see that the other children are doing it too, but if your child is not ready that is a lot pressure! Children are ready anything between 18 months and 4 years. That is a big gap. Popular sites suggest that if you have been using disposably nappies chances are that your child will only be ready at age 2,5 years.

I have done a lot of reading on the topic of pottytraining since my child had a bladder problem. If you have any idea how sensitive the whole potty training issue is from an emotional point, you would think twice about forcing a child to pottytrain against his own will. It will backfire!!! It turns into a major powerstruggle and children start to soil their underwear on purpose to show who is boss!

I am a firm believer of follow the childs lead. Especially with regards to pottytraining. I say this because I also made this mistake, thinking that she is ready, because I wanted her to be ready. It doesn't work that way.

I suggest you do some research on the topic to get an idea on the whole pottytraining topic.

Good luck!
