Kathleen, it took a while for my LG. She started only pping in the toilet and then only later, it might have been a few months, going for #2 on toilet. It will happen. They realize it's not nice to make a mess, it's easier on the toilet. :-)

Hi Ladies!

My lg is at the point where he stays dry, sleeps and will wake at night calling me to switch on the light to wee and then goes back to bed but won't go #2 in the toilet!!!

Really don't know how to get him to go #2?? If I notice it is time he will finish on the toilet but the mess has been made!!??

Any advice as to how you got you LO go #2??

I've given up!! Some time in October I'm going to start potty training my LG and hope that her older brother will want to follow suit if she is going around without nappies.

Thanks GW for the book link! I've got a few books to read at the moment but am definitely going to consider getting it. Claire, let us know how the book is.

Claire, there are a lot of us in your position! No real advise, I just agree that some kids really do potty train later than others.

Hi Claire, I have not yet read the book I suggested to you, though I am busy reading her version for adults (for myself). My therapist recently pointed out that she thinks that I have sensory integration problems which is very similiar to "highly sensitive people". Please let me know if you enjoyed the book and found it helpful.

My concern is that because I am sensitive I might be "transferring" my sensitivities to her. I really try not to, but children are very good at sensing the finer emotions of adults.

How is it going with the potty training?

Here it is going like always....For days it goes brilliant and then all of the sudden she insists on nappies again! It seems that we managed to get her to use the toilet exclusively and not the potty anymore. (I am relieved, cleaning that potty is a nasty business!). Currently she is very excited about the new panties I bought her. Lets hold thumbs she stays out of the nappies!

Thanks, gw. I have ordered the book...it describes my son exactly. He is not like other children at all. Will let you know how it goes...

Claire, I totally understand! My LG is the same!
I think it is a good idea to instill the idea of privacy, but I hear that it is problematic if he won't let teachers help with the wiping department.

Don't feel bad about losing your cool. I also did a few times, after the how maniest time I had to scrub the carpets! But I also realised the slightest sign of frustration or anger makes the situation 10 times worse. So, I have practised to have a calm and loving supportive face.

ps: have you read "the highly sensitive child"? Here is a link to the website of the book if you are interested www.hsperson.com/pages/child.htm
