Hi Hasie, thank you for sharing. I'm reading up on the topic at the moment and it seems that they will need extra help with learning how to write properly also. I'm just a bit worried that I won't know how to show her!

I know it's very early days but is occupational therapy something we will have to consider in future? Luckily her teacher is great and I'm sure she will help her a lot. She will be handing me a few printouts this afternoon with excersises to do at home - i.e. drawing straight lines and circles etc.

I have a little leftie, turning 4 this year. He was also behind on drawing as he was wrongly encouraged to use his right hand. We did see from very early on that he prefers the left hand.

He's got left hand scissors and uses them beautifully. It is a bit harder to teach them to cut, try to sit directly opposite her when cutting so that she mirrors your movements.

Take some extra time teaching her to draw circles and helping her to catch up.

Things like hitting a ball with a bat or playing action golf can also be problematic. Just watch her and help her to figure out how to find her groove with the hand she prefers.

Hi Ladies

My daughter is turning 3 in two weeks' time and yesterday her teacher told me that she thinks she is left handed as she is colouring in with her left hand and also starting to do more tasks with her left hand. We've also noticed it for the first time this past weekend.
The teacher said I should buy left handed scissors so she can get the opportunity the cut with that hand and we should also buy a stress ball so that she could practice the small muscles in her left hand.

I just want to touch base with other moms with left-handed children - what did you do to help them? My daughter is behind with drawing circles and straight lines and the teacher says her left handedness is probably the reason behind it. Any thoughts?
