Ladies I agree with claire. You need to teach lo not to touch things but having said that you would hate to have him learn the hard way so yip no knives lying around.

we have no locks on doors and so far so good. I am sure things will change, but we are teaching Dylan not to go into certain cupboards.

My partner seems to be fairly good with some things and brainless with others.

Mom of Dylan and Partner to Joerg. We live in the Beautiful Pringle Bay which is along the Whale coast, Cape.

If it was my hubby he would have found all his work in progress in the outside dustbin :-).

Child - Yep, teach her that certain things are off limits.

Hubby and knives - if he doesn't work with the knives in the garage with the door closed, or else he needs to get it out of the bin when he leaves it lying around!!

Door to garage - put a hammer on the ceiling and if the door isn't closed, the guilty party gets a concussion:O) Seriously:O)) Otherwise a safety gate - maybe, just maybe that'll be better than a hammer ;)

Good luck!!!! ;)

Blessed and honoured to be a mom to an almost 4 year old. Biggest, best surprise ever!

gloeiwurmpie - it is even harder to teach a baby / toddler than it is to remind your hubby :-)

mmm...thanks ladies...
I must say I remind him as often as possible, but I am going a bit mad here with reminding him, it feels as if I have to look after both of them and do my work.
The security gate is a very good idea.
ClaireA: You are right, one has to teach her "no" for certain things, I think we are a bit slow teaching that.

Crazylove - that's just the thing, you will have to think of something else when he starts walking, then what about when he learns to open doors himself, then when he learns to open all those bottle lids.

This is why I feel that it is an ongoing process to educate the CHILD about what is allowed and what not allowed, that way when he becomes more independent he will not get into all sorts of trouble. Until he gets to that defiant age of course, but by then (hopefully) he will understand the dangers when explained.

But in the meantime, there is never any harm in educating the adults looking after them as well

maybe you constantly need to remind you hubby, men does not think like us ladies.
with my second i made laminated posters for each door"Liam in area please keep me close" with a pic of my son on the poster.after a while its like a routine to close doors behide you.
I need to think of something else when my baby starts walking.
my motto rather safe than sorry ...
