Hello ladies,
I am a very happy mommy with a four and half month old little boy. Even though he was premature by six weeks, he is a little trooper. He weighs 7 kilograms now and is 65 centimetres. So definitely a big little man.
The reason for my post is I need a little advice. I was diagnosed with an underactive thyriod about 3 months before I found out I was pregnant. I had a terrible pregnancy due to this. While pregnant and almost at the end, I went to a specialist to see what he could do to help me with my thyriod. He did a couple of tests and found that I had 5 grows on my thyriod. The one was so big that it was about the size of a R1 coin. While being pregnant we couldn't do anything about it. Well I am seeing him in the first week in October and I have a big decision to make.
See the growths are non cancerous, well so far. I want it taken out. Main reason being that it can turn to cancer anytime. And another reason is that my grandmother died of lymph cancer and seeing as the thyriod gland is so close the lymph nodes, I don't want to take a chance.
Firstly I would like to find out if anyone has had the operation. Please share your experience, your recovery and your lifestyle changes with me, please.
Secondly, I would like to find out how this will affect my fertility in the future, when it has been removed. Will I still be able to get pregnant.
Thirdly, what effect has the medication after the operation had on you.
Thank you so much for this forum and to all the ladies. And for taking the time to help me out.
Have a lovely day.
Maureen
