I want to share our experience with you. When pregnant with my son, the gynae picked up some abnormalities in his brain that is one of the markers for DS. I was 30 at that stage. We were sent to a fetal specialist on an emergency appointment and she picked up even more of these "cysts" in his brain. We were against an amnio, as we felt that no matter what, we'll continue with the pregnancy. Both drs were not too impressed with our decision against the amnio. The FS wanted to see us again in 4 wks time, and guess what, no sign of any cysts.

Our son is now 5 yrs old and in perfect health.

So, like I said. only you can make that call. Will be thinking of you.

Ek het in Januarie gegaan vir die amnio.
Dit is 'n vreeslike duur prosedure en het my mediese fonds se dag tot dag fondse vir die jaar totaal uitgeput. Dit het negatief terug gekom. My seunjie is 4 maande oud en te pragtig. Jy moet dink hoekom jy dit wil doen en is jy bereid om die risiko's verbonde daaraan te dra. Die risiko dat jou baba wel downs is, is kleiner as die risiko van 'n moontlike miskraam as gevolg van die prosedure.

Sterkte met wat ookal jou besluit is. Dit sal die regte besluit wees.

I think it depends on what you would do were you to know the outcome. Are you prepared to continue with the pregnancy if the baby were to have DS?

I feel for you as this would be such a difficult choice for me to make.

As dit jou gaan laat beter voel, doen die amnio...iemand wat ek ken het dit laat doen selfs al was hulle nie in die hoe risiko groep nie, maar net omdat hulle wou sekerheid he...

Sjoe KarinM, sterkte, dink aan julle en die besluite wat julle moet neem. Ek is seker baba gaan okay wees, glo en vertrou!

Ja dis makliker vir ons om te se wat ons sou gedoen het siende dat ons nie in jou situasie is nie. Ek het vreeslik gestress oor DS - weet nie hoekom nie - het my nie gepla met my ander swangerskappe nie.

Probeer dalk gaan vir 'n 2de mening by iemand wat net scans doen - specialist sonographer of so iemand? Daai dametjie daar by Genesis (weet nou nie waar jy is nie) is baie goed. Sy doen net scans. En sy vra maar R200.

Hi Joli... ja ek het dieselfde dag gegaan as die nuchal meting en die nuchal was baie normaal, maar 1.2 waar die maksimum 4 is.
Dink nog oor die amnio... so bang ek maak 'n fout om dit te doen.
