file Panorama or Cape Town medi clinic

I personally chose the hospital nearer to home. Not convenient for ante natal check ups but what I used to do was to schedule my appointments first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon so that I would go on my way to work which saved quite a bit of time.

The reason I chose to be closer to home is because I would hate to have to sit in traffic were I to be in labour and secondly it is just easier for hubby to go backwards and forwards once lo is born.

The other thing to consider is should your lo need extra care (I truly hope not, then you would have go back and forth to feed lo.

Once lo is born there are lots of checks and balances that are done and more that have to be followed up and all the specialists that do these (paed, audiologist etc) are usually in the vicinity of the hospital so just easier later on.

Eg We continue to use the same paed that was at Dylan's birth. He has rooms at Panorama so he could admit Dylan to Panorama when he was sick which is near home so I guess what I am trying to say is don't just think about the birth but of the care that occurs after the birth for years to come.

Mom of Dylan and Partner to Joerg. We live in the Beautiful Pringle Bay which is along the Whale coast, Cape.

Thanks ladies, much appreciated.

I need more advise, i will be moving to Kleinbosch soon and I work in Town hence the two hospitals that I must choose from. If I choose CT I will be close for appointments and I won’t be out of work for long period but after birth I will have to travel to town for baba’s appointments. Whereas Panorama is closer to home very convenient and don’t have to drive up and down with the baba when born. Help me here ladies.

I had Graeme at CTMC and loved it.

I looked at a couple of hospitals, Kingbury, CTMC and Vincent Paloti. And I must say CTMC looked the best by far.

I would recommend going in their tour. If I am not mistaken it is on a Wed at 11. Just phone and book. It is well run and organized down to a T. Oh and as a bonus you get crossants and coffee / tea at the end.

I can't recommend a good doc. I only know of a good one that would be able to a a c-section only at CTMC, not natural (she does natural at Chris Barnard).

I can't judge Panorama as I have never been there.

lol My surgeon referred me to Dr Atzl and said if he was a woman he would want Dr Atzl as a gynae. Brilliant surgeon too which I am living proof of.

I looked at Cape Town medi clinic when preggies but went with Kingsbury as it is a 15 min walk from our house and we have no car!

Maybe go on their maternity tours too, even though you are only ttc still I doubt they will mind.

Good luck on your ttc journey

Same as Julz, I used Dr Atzl at Panorama for baby 1 and baby 3. Baby 1 was in 2001, and then it was run a bit like a Gestapo Holding Camp.

Baby 3 was in 2009 and it was much more holistic. They have a fabulous neonate ward and probably some of the best doctors to deal with "early birth" babies, so you are in fantastic hands there.

In 2005 I was at Cape Town Medi-Clinic, and I do not want to lie, but it was fantastic. I found my experience wonderful. The hospital was very much about me, the client, rather than the patient who they were going to dictate to.

I really enjoyed both hospitals, but part of it is finding the doctor you enjoy, as the hospital stay is 1 - 4 days, the doctor is the person you are going to be with for 9 months.

I love Dr. Atzl and I was recommend to him. My friend who is +20 weeks is with him now, and she totally loves him. He specialises in high risk pregnancies, and what I loved about him - besides his knowledge/experience is that he is excited with you.

I loved the fact that last year he was so excited with me for my third child, it was as if this was the best thing he had ever done, and the first child he had ever delivered!!

But find the doctor that makes your heart soar, and I think you could probably give birth under a tree and it would not matter.
