Hi there Ika

Julz is correct, the cost will depend primarily on what meds your put on.

My FS, is doc Lindeque @ wilgeheuwel Hosp. He never thought that I would need ivf to begin with as our only issue was my hostile CM but it was something we had discussed with him.

His estimate was about R47 000, steep I know.

He had said R13 000 would be for the meds, R21 000 for the Lab and the other R13 000 for his practice (i think).

I hope this will shed some light but do speak to your FS for a more accurate estimate.

hi Ika

The cost is quite high and it really depends on what medications they use as well as if they use ICSI etc.

I am not sure where you are but Dr Siebert was my fs although I never needed IVF treatment.

I also encourage you to see a therapist as a couple if you proceed with such treatment as you need to be in a good place emotionally.

When you start talking about multiple IVF treatments it takes it's toll on the couple. I deal with this now so have a good understanding.

Your gynae would probably the best person to chat to about where to go to for fertility treatment. They know the doctors and they know which clinics are good at specific treatments etc.

I wish you all the very best for 2011.x

Hi Ika,

I have been to dr Siebert at Aevitas Clinic in Cape Town. I would highly recommend him. He is in partnership with prof Kruger who did the first IVF baby in South Africa.

My first IVF/ICSI cost R 28 000. My husband had a biopsy which came to R 6 000.

My second IVF/ICSI cost R 22 000. This time we had frozen sperm.

I think the ICSI part cost around R 6 000.

I know it is a lot of money, but as for me it is the only way to fall pregnant, so I just need to keep trying.

I am currently reading Tersia Albertyn's book: So Close. What an inspiration. She has gone through 9 IVF's. Doesn't matter the cost, if you are willing to keep trying, you won't give up.

I really hope you get your BFP before you go for your first IVF.

x
