My thoughts exactly - I nearly fell of my chair - and apparently this is not only happening in our school - its in all the schools - SCARY STUFF.

The other day my girls came to me and said that she is really worried about this one girl, so called friend - (she is only allowed to come to our house, my daughter is not allowed to go there or go out with her without us (we are hoping we can rub off on her and council her in suttle ways), anyway she has lost soooo much weight - almost annorexic and has sent pics of herself (in her underwear) to a few boys and now the entire highschool of boys has the pic - what should she do. We have managed to get the message to her mom via a friend (I am hoping she has spoken to this girls mom) so not sure what has been done about the situation. but is scary how close to your doorstep these things happen

I understand what you are saying - T

The scary thing is we (all parents) went to a talk at the PRIMARY SCHOOL - to give feedback on what had been discussed with the pupils (by a professional) and it turned out that most of the girls have started having sex by age 10 - 12 and if not that, they have been "fiddled with willingly" !!!!!! The one thing that came out also was when they go to movies they make sure they sit in the front row - BECAUSE THE GIRL CAN KNEEL DOWN - how scary is that !!! - Some girls apparently need no encouragement to send naked pics of themselves to boys, who love this because they masturbate over them and then send them on to their friends - AND THIS PRIMARY SCHOOL - There was ONE little boy who deletes them when he gets them cause his mom checks his phone - AND THIS HAS COME STRAIGHT FROM THE KIDS THEMSELVES

Gosh to me that does sound quite strict but I must add my son is only 1 and I am thinking of your post in terms of when I was 16 13 years ago. Your post made me think and I have just chatted to Dh about it. Our feeling is 10.30 on weekends, we or parents we approve of drive (not a friend's older brother or boyfriend), we ALWAYS know where child is, parties are fine if a parent or teacher is there but we will phone and check, same goes for same sex sleep overs. The mall is fine but I would probably put a 9PM curfew on that unless they're at a late movie. It would depend on the mall though - some CT malls are very family based and the spur is open past midnight ;)

A 16 year old girl often has an older boyfriend and there is a slippery slope between being too strict and "forcing" her into doing something she will regret later. Just remember there's nothing kids can do at 11PM that they can't just as easily do at 11am....

But maybe I will feel different when/if I have a teenage daughter :)

The scary thing is I dont have a cooking clue - but I guess I cant be doing that bad, cause my girls are very into church and going to youth activities and things (not always about going out "jolling") and although they can frustrate the living daylights out of us, and although it never seems like it, sometimes we realise that things we say or do actually sink in ...... eventually :)

I guess that is all normal for a parent to be concerned with her teens. Parenting teens can be quite tough if you don't know what to do.
