Right, let's add tutor to my budget in a few years time. This only child thing is fast becoming the only way I am going to survive financially vs. it being a "choice". Shocking.

I couldn't agree with you more! not forgetting the extra mural activities too :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Charnenay - I was really shocked by how alarming grade 1 was for me, there always seemed to be something to do or something to get and it was really alarming.

I work full day so trying to do this in the day was manic.

Fortunately I have a situation where I leave work midday collect kids from school - get an idea of what they need, drop them at home and head back to work.

So by the time I get home after work, I can go and fetch what they need, or have started "thinking" of how to do the project or what ever.

Georgia is in Grade 1 next year, and I seriously breath a sigh of relief that I am not going to be as shocked as I was with Connor, because at least now I have a little bit of a heads up.

Fortunately Connor's school has a really good after-care and they have a dedicated homework teacher who sits with the kids and does homework with them.

So by the time they get home from school the homework is done and we might just need to do 15 minute revision or what ever.

But it is hectic. I believe that Grade 4 is the total kicker which is going to make me realise that what I have been exposed to is "child's play" --- so I am really looking forward to that.

Connor is in grade 3 and probably spends about an hour a day on homework each day.

He often has projects/orals to prepare, but it is probably about one every two weeks.

There is a frightening amount of work and if you have not had a child at primary schoool, you will be a bit shocked.

I am seriously starting to think (without being flippant) that by the time my daughter is in grade 2 and then Connor is in Grade 5, I will not be physically able to wrok as I will need to have my afternoons to do homework/revision/extra murals.

It is manic the pace these kids work at.

I do not think that Panorama or any other school gives excessive homework, but the kids have a lot to get through in a year, and the pace is relentless.

Connor is learning Afrikaans an Xhosa this year and he has not had exposure to either languages.

The maths they do is at a frightening level, and they read a ton.

It is a lot of work for these kids, and they can't fall behind, else they are literally left in the dirt scrambling.

I have 2 friends who have kids at Panorama Primary and both are complaining about the horrendous amount of homework that the school gives. I have looked at it and I must say that I agree. Not sure if its like this at all schools - I really hope not. It seems as if the parents are doing a large amount of "Schooling" over the weekend. Sometimes 3 or 4 projects over a weekend.

Listen, I am not sure if this is how it is supposed to be or if the children are not doing what they should when they should or what - but it seems a bit excessive to me.

Maybe moms who already have kids at primary school could shed some light on this as I am quite interested to hear about the general amount of homework the kids are getting.
