Special things your LO's do to fall asleep

Before my LB is in bed, a good sign is his high level of total irritation.. crying, throwing his toys around, bang his toys against the door,pull my hair etc..
Once he is in bed, he will turn on his side, and start moving his foot!!!!! (my husband also moves his foot -- apparently its more a comfort thing to do???!?!?!)

A comfort item is wonderful for a child. Dylan didn't favour one until he was a bit older. Luckily he chose his cellular blanket which I have two of. You will find that your lo will just choose something on her own when she is ready.

What we do is allow the item at home when he asks for it. Sadly he likes his dummy a blanket and now a book, but each child is different.

We do have a rule though which is they stay at home unless we go out past his bedtime. He may not take his dummy or blanket to school.

I laughed this morning. We were heading out the house and he spotted his new book. He took it and headed back to bed.

AngelsMom - I think some kids just gravitate towards a "Linus blanket" item while others don't.

With my son, I tried to introduce several things and he was not interested. However his dad bought him a large stuffed dog when he was about 3 and he still sleeps with it - he is now nearly 9.

My 5 year old daughter does not have any sleep attachments, but my 15 month old has this stuffed dog that lives under her arm - if she is upset we give her the stuffed dog, she starts rubbing his ear and sucks her thumb and calms down.

I have no idea why this item had appeal to her - we did not try to get her interested in it, she just skipped the teddy bears and all the other items and b-lined for this stuffed dog.

It is nice for a child to have a comfort item, but on the other hand it can be restrictive and become an obsession for the child, so it is also quite cool if a child can self-soothe without an external item.

Those using doo doo blankies how did you introduce them? ANd how are they suppose to be used ? I dont mind helping my LG to fall asleep but I would love for to help her self

Gia wants me to carry her and then nuzzles against me whilst rubbing her ears and eyes. Usually her eyes also go red when she is tired. The new thing when she wakes up in the day after her nap... she plays with her Tati bear or her doo doo blankie and comforts herself until you go into her room. Finally after using these aids for many many months she finally uses them ) im so proud of her!!!
