With my first child I cried every morning on the way to work and day dreamt about my daughter all day long so much so that I was unproductive and got called in by my Boss. I also got wrapped over the knuckles for calling the school twice a day to hear if she was alright. Work didn't like that one too much. I'm far more relaxed with my Son and only phone school if he is sick and was niggly when I dropped him off.

This is my 2nd week back at work. Its still not easy, although the first 3 days were the hardest! I think I called my nanny 4 times then.

I only called her once today, was tempted to do so a few times but I resisted.

Hi Elaine, thanks, it went better than expected! I said to myself I'm not going to cry and just try to be strong - and I managed to stick to it! (I cried enough the previous evening.) I got up early, showered, fed Emma when she woke up, got dressed and did my make-up while she looked at her mobile, expressed an hour later and just held her for the last half an hour before I left for the office. I phoned home twice during the day, and luckily it went well with her nanny - Emma drank most of her 3 bottles, napped well and didn't cry too much. At the office the expressing also went well - luckily we have a "mother's room" especially for this purpose. So all in all it went well.

I'm just glad I went back on a Friday!

Hi, I still have a mont left before going back to work. With my first baby, it was not easy but i feel having someone reliable and that you are comfortable with looking after your baby also helps. You will be able to work if you know everything is well at home. What I also do is spend the last month before work going out to the shops alone so that the baby bonds well with the nanny. I am also able to see if the nanny is coping.

Good luck, it does take some time but you will be fine.
