vaccinations

my lo is with the government and we havent had any problems, he went for his 12 weeks yesterday and he got all his shots, i would rather save my medical savings for future emergency or officail check ups.......i know clicks pharamcy also has these shots available

Julz, do you have any more info on the ear infection vaccine??! That would be awesome! x

Dylan got fevers with the privates. I must add though that prevenar and Rotarix wasn't part of the government schedule when he was born. I believe there is a new vaccine now that covers ear infections too.

They also give one less inj with the privates but at this age it really isn't that serious. The kids get over it quickly.

I take my little one to our Link pharmacy where there is a 'private clinic' but they also stock the government vaccinations, which are really no different to the private. We were also concerned about this and the sister showed us the 'private stock' and the 'government stock' they are made by the same people, the only thing is with the government there is one extra jab and if you can have two nursesthat will do it at the same time, why not. We only pay R100 for a visit and have our appointments scheduled long before the time. Dont see why you should have to pay over R1000 when we can pay R100. Your child does not cry any more or any less with the extra or non extra -

oh and by the way, with the syndrome that Lior has if anything was going to happen, it would definately happen to him, and he has been perfectly fine with all the injections (hardly even cried actually). We were initially very scared to give him the injections because of the syndrome and our paed said he had to have it irrespective. The thing is if we dont, give him these injections, and he gets something, in his case it will be fatal. - SO MY POINT IS there really is nothing wrong with the government stock

we have been following the government schedule and I have been taking my son to our local clinic in Fish Hoek.
The longest that I have waited was 45 minutes and that was because there was a stomach bug doing the rounds and all the clinic staff was off sick and they had to get the staff from another clinic to fill in.
As RM said, the only important thing is to go early and as for my two cents, dont dress in too much layers, as they will have someone weigh all the babies and update their charts and then you go back to the waiting room and then you get called for the shots, so you have to undress baba completely (and change nappy so it is not too heavy) and then they weigh baba and then you have to dress them again-rather tricky as there is only one table.

We took our Kids to the pharmacy's private clinic who also stock the government vaccinations as well as the Private type. We decided on the Government vac's because the Clinic Sister said in her opinion the one was not at all better than the other and that she often saw worse side effect from the Private jab's. We have never had a days problems and I never experienced any side effect with my Kids and their Jabs. you can go to most pharmacies who have instore Clinics and it's wonderful and clean and you usually don't need an appointment. There are not really ever cues of any kind and it's very comfortable. Clicks Pharmacies also offer this service. They have qualified nursing staff and are also able to give breasfeeding advice and other Health advice and also weigh your baby for you weekly.
