Babyshoes - urgh, i hate it when people ask you, is it a boy or a girl...uhm, well, she's wearing pink, her blankie is pink, her teddy next to her is pink, i wonder?!? i agree, she can take it out if she doesn't want it! i've also seen pic's of baby's with earrings that looked so cute.
Anina - jip, i think we should do it together!
Julzdylan + Beansmom - it's nice that you had your own choise and that it was a birthday thing!
thanx all for the feedback.

I'm neither here nor there on the topic of ear piercings - but know what I go through when Tayla goes for her injections which she HAS to have... Ears being pierced isn't a must so just so that I don't have to go through all the anxiety and worry, I won't do it.

Most places nowadays only do from 2 yrs anyway... I know my nanny keeps saying in her culture they pierce the ears at birth... Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

I personally only had mine done at 12 yrs... It was a birthday gift from my parents because I wanted it. It was a little sore - but no more that what a baby is going to feel? Well that is my opinion anyway.

When I was 5 I really wanted my ears pierced. My mom said no. She told me that I must wait till my seventh birthday so I did. When I turned seven she asked what I want for my birthday and I told her earings.

Did it hurt? No not at all. Was I scared? No, it was my own choice!

Someone mistook my baby for a boy at 4 months (yes she had pink on with flowers but still) so at 5 months I took her and she looks lovely with earrings on. People always comment on her earrings so I am glad I pierced it.

As for the age, yes if the lobes are too small then rather wait a while but if the lobes at least have a bit of space then the smaller the better since they dont land up pulling at it.

One last thing is that you dont need to put any creams, surgical spirits etc once its done, just leave it and turn the earrings every chance you get for the first few weeks, trust me no infections.

Voetjies, pierce your little ones ears, I think little girls with earrings look adorable and if she chooses not to have earrings later on in life then she can always close the holes, no biggie! :)

Wow, thanx for all the replies!
Definitely some good points to think about.
I do want to pierce her ears, but will definitely wait a little longer.
I love the ideas of waiting for them to decide themselves, but also think it will be more painful when they are bigger.
Anyway, appreciate all the inputs.
Will post again when I decide to do it!
Have a great day ladies.

We had my lg's ears pierced at 9 months. She cried for about a minute and then she was fine. We cleaned it for 6 weeks with surgical spirits and no infection.

My gran had my ears pierced when I was 5 years old and according to my parents I also struggled with infections - they wouldn't let me have my ears pierced again. I was 21 when I had them pierced!

I think little girls look absolutely cute when their ears are pierced, but each person has their own opionion and preferences.

A lot of places don't want to do piercings until they are about 2, but there are a few out their that will do it from 6 months. For me 9 months was a perfect age as she wasn't a small baby anymore and she hadn't started fiddling with her ears yet.
